For the OP, interestingly Kie above used the term 'narrow-focus' and that's exactly why I'm selling mine. Don't get me wrong, I foookin' love this bike and it's got way more of everything that I can handle, but for me it's too nice to take out in the winter and get dirty and muddy, I'm afraid to take it out on gravel roads that I might see somewhere out in the boonies because it'll be expensive if I drop it, and I'll cry...also it's got no fairings (kinda the whole point of the bike, I know) for crappy winter weather as I'm commuting home from work. Oh, and the big numero uno issue is that I can't take it on long distance trips without spending another $1000 on a 6 gal fuel tank. Ultimately, it's a one-trick pony for me and all my bikes have multiple uses. Heck, I even have a set of SM rims for my Husky which should work just fine for my inner hooligan.

Oh, and last year I took my VFR to Chaco Canyon which is 20 miles in on hard pack dirt. That's 40 miles if you do the math! I love my VFR even if she's a bit overweight and not as sexy as that hot as fook Italian dominatrix!

?? You are either grabbing much too abruptly or your tires suck. The one I rode would do effortless stoppies at any speed.

The butt-shaped Sargent seat is an interesting touch for this category of bike.
i looked at that one. the brick colored cf parts turn me off. and i don't like the seat.

actually, i think Duc nailed the styling on this bike and i prefer the oem equipment to any aftermarket bs except the tail fender thingy. it is loud enough stock, so Termi's aren't even necessary, imo.

i looked at a 1100-evo this morning. it was not as-advertised though. it had been crashed, and repaired (by SUB) though the title is clean. they replaced bars and plastic, and the clutch cover. they also replaced the clutch, which was slipping. the mechanics notes say "glazed" friction pads, which to me means clutch-up wheelies. a lot. and i know, that is what you buy this bike for. so any hyper with any miles will have been thrashed.

but in the repair service they also did the valve checks, and went all through the bike. so it is in a way sort of "inspected SAT" if you will.

any way, it also had more miles than as-advertised, so I mostly want to PASS on it. I made an offer, but i think it was just low enough that he will pass. but i offered what its worth to me. it will need tires and brakes. the rear sprocket looks good, so i assume the chain is ok. and there is some minor electrical stuff to do: the front blinker bulbs are supposed to be LED but they put incandescent lights in there during the repair because that is all they had. mechanics notes say: "you should change these bulbs asap because the (stator?) power source is not rated to supply the voltage"

it also needs tires, and so probably brakes.

what an insanely cool bike though. i see what's to love.

any way. ive also been looking at 990 SMT/R's, but those are kinda pricey.

Ok Ok Ok..........I like Ducati's....

I'm on my second one.

The first one I bought new. I put 36,000 miles on it in 3 years. Road it rain or shine, road it on many dirt roads. It never failed me on many road trips and/or day trips. The only time I got stranded is when I ran out of gas......

Currently on my second one............I will ride it rain or shine (honestly, I don't ride in the rain as much as I used to since I have the SM) I've ridden it on dirt roads, long road trips, and day trips. It has yet stranded me. I've had nothing but good luck with both of them.

I like how they handle, the low end torque, and how it fits me.

Yes, Ducati is not that original any more, but it still strikes up a conversation with strangers when I stop for gas or food or...........

it was this. 2010 690 Duke. I think the SMT is what I had hoped the Duke would be.

So. I got the 990 SMT.

Pick it up next week.

Woot. It's not a hypermotard. But at least I can ride it some place beside the gas station.

After getting off the Connie the KTM felt like a bicycle, which is exactly what I want.
