You did it the right way. I wasnít that interested in dealing with Sport mode having never rode a DCT and didnít pay close enough attention when the salesman was going through the 50 different options and missed the button to change riding modes. Having previously owned a GL1800 I thought the Touring mode would be more than adequate for a test ride...now I am wondering what I missed and whether the Sport mode would actually make the bike fun to ride instead of a glorified cruiser.

Be interesting to see how the long term test rides go.
So far its been a day at the track and a day in Austin. The track testers raved about the new front end and improved handling overall.
Lemmy at Revzilla didnt really have much to say for his one day ride.
MCN's passenger loved the ride and quietness when the screen was all the way up.Both the pilot and passenger mentioned buffeting with it down.
By the time summers over I am sure the forums and reviews will have revealed any flaws compared to the new model excitement going on now.

I know I'm looking for a 750 lb or so, light handling cruising bike with a trunk for Me and the wife that we like the styling of. Stereo, Cruise control and heated seats and grips. Navigation would be nice but not a must.
This version of the GW comes close.

Dont want a missile like the C14, fjr1300 and 6 cylinder BMW.

Havent ridden the HD Electra Glide yet. But test sitting reveals cramped floorboards and tight rider cockpit feel. (And the Old Lady hates all things HD)
Test rode the Victory Cross Country and came away with mixed feelings about it. Styling is OK and the handling is light and quick for a 800 lb bike. The power seemed down compared to the other 106 Victories I rode that are 100 lbs lighter.
Then there is the whole abandoned by Polaris thing.
The biggest plus is I can get a new 2017 for half the price of the other touring contenders.
The Indian RoadMaster is Very heavy but easy handling once moving but with no topend.
Same with the Chieftain Elite which I love the looks of.
Will have to test ride them again since its been almost 4 years since I last rode them.
Then there is leftover 2016 & 17 Goldwings. Great bikes with well known strengths and weaknesses but the styling is about exciting as a brown couch.

What I got now is a 950 lb top heavy, stylish , ultra smooth v4 with heavy steering and a challenge once stopped. Decent stereo, cruise control and fabulous comfort. That v4 has great mid range with a bit more topend than the v-twins.
Aint getting any younger (62) so I want a more manageable bike. Just dont know if its out there in one package.

About the only thing I wish mine has was an electric adjustable windshield. I'd still like to see one in person and preferably take it for a spin.
Rustydust and ZXtasy like this.

Looks different without the top box for some reason. How do you keep your jacket so bright? Tide? Spray and Wash...,?

Dude - you must be a big mofo. You make it that bike look like a Gromwing.

And the thing I like about the ST over the GW is that a ST in uber condition can be had for like NO money.

I am rather tall, one of the only riders that buys rising links instead of lowering links. And @Skiffman I do use Spray and Wash on the jacket sometimes, but it really isn't as clean as it looks in that pic.
