Removed C14 ECU - bikeless.

Packed it up to send to FLA for Steve to reflash it with the newest thang!
Weird to have the bikes brain removed.

Hey buddy, let me know how you like/notice the difference. I am thinking about sending mine in but then I won't be bike-less, (you need a spare) but I need some of my side jobs to start paying up so I can justify it! Thanks

Try to keep yourself occupied while you are #bikeless.

Mine is due back this week, 4th flash from him so far. He has tweaked it so far that at this point I will be a happy camper and no more needs for the flash. He really transforms the C14 power at all revs, in all gears and at all RPMs and throttle positions. Amazing amount of detail he puts into the flash.

Have fun, you will be amazed.

PS: why multiple flashes? He is always fine tuning the maps, I was a test bed for the new MR flash which just came out. I really like this one and he is fine tuning it even more. Beer me!

I talked with Steve on the phone yesterday and he talked me through (into) the MR flash. I am going to try that one. The only hesitation I have is that I was sort of looking forward to reduced engine braking. I prefer to stop with the brakes and not the engine. Go figure.

It looks like, and tell me if this is your understanding as well, the MR and the Evo are identical above 10% throttle opening and that the changes all occurred in the way the throttles open and shut right off and on the zero. I understand the throttle opens a bit slower on the MR flash, and closes a bit faster, which would ease the off-idle jerkiness and raise the engine braking. IIRC.

Dunno, but I will tell you what I think whenever I get a chance to ride it. It's expensive, but it is a known-quantity performance improvement. We have multiple dyno's. And that makes it a sort of rare duck as far as mods go. Also, it is great buck-bang at $375.00 for 10hp and 7 or 8 lb/ft guaranteed.'

Why not just ride over to Nel's and just do it once?!

Good luck. Hope it turns out well.

I thought Ivan was the guy for the C14 flash?

Does 'Steve' do the ZX-14 also?

Steve does the Connie only. He is famous on the C14 site and as far as I can tell is really knowledgeable and a good guy even if he does live in FL, which, IIRC, is full of crocs and other oddball stuff.

Nel's is in Mount Lake Terrace. Same elevation, same humidity, rolling dyno, and a super dude.

But, to each their own...

I'm really happy with Nel's flashing my FZ07's ECU. It significantly reduced the engine braking effect, something I hate (I'll never own a V-twin). Having ridden mostly 2-strokes, they don't have any so I've never liked it, and it was very pronounced on the FZ, moreso than my Z1000. The flash also made the choppiness upon decelleration pretty much disappear.

The best thing was he came down to Vancouver for a day so I didn't have to take it out & send it to him. Plus, if you do mods like an aftermarket pipe, he will reflash it without further charge.....bonus!

Since the guy you went with specializes in your bike, it sounds like you'll be happy, but why would it take 4 times to get it right (from GPD's post)? It seems like it should've been right the first time around.

thats because I have been a test bed for several different tunes at no cost to me. I get the new improved flash, test ride it a bunch and give feedback. 20 of us were doing this for Steve and he was tweaking it. Steve has put his C14 on the dyno hundreds of times. I had a local flash at one point, glad I went with Steve's. All Steve's flashes are good, he has several to choose from and one is the decell flash, he takes that out of the tune just like you would like according to your post.

One flash I rode for 6 days on a trip and had a lot of good info to pass on.
