Pulled Over for Tucked Plate Today

On my way into work on the I90 bridge, I noticed a blacked out Ford SUV (State Patrol) pull up real close behind me and stayed there all the way across. He lit me up when I changed lanes to get off at my exit. He said he pulled me over because he couldn't read my plate. Gave me a verbal warning and said they are doing an emphasis patrol for bikes with tucked plates.

That was really nice of him to give you a warning. Messing with your plates is a no no.

the man likes to know who he's dealing with. anonymity is not allowed.

remember, you are not your body, your mind, or your heart. you are your permanent record. no, really, that's what you are.

Nice to know they are looking for plates. Stolen bikes are a huge problem up there.

Anyone ever get any grief for having it vertical but not tucked?

Not in Oregon. Had a vertical plate on my last bike for 5 years and never got pulled over.

Not once. Have had state, county and city cops behind me and never a stop.

Vertical plate is technically illegal, so catch the wrong LEO on the wrong day and you will catch some grief for it.

Yeah that's why I questioned it. With the way my plate mounts though it would just be a quick second to change it. I had it vertical for a little bit before I did a Grand Tour, but since I was going through 5 different states I figured I'd keep it 100% up to code in case I discovered a patch of road with bored officers. (Back when I lived in Wyoming you got pulled over for doing 2mph over the speed limit. Yes, 2. And they looked for any reason at all to have something to do.)

It's funny, it seems to have come to a place where you are much less likely to get stopped riding a Harley, than if you are riding a sport bike. Even talking with LEOs I know the attitude has become that sport bike riders are reckless kids, and are the ones that draw the attention. Harley riders, on the other hand are perceived, primarily, as more responsible, older riders. Such a change from when I first started riding and Harley riders where seen as the outlaw biker gang type, and people riding Japanese bikes were the responsible adults.

Guess I'm not old enough to have seen the "Japanese bikes belong to adults"
Cops always seem pleasantly surprised when I pull over and take off my helmet, like they weren't expecting me to act like a grown up.

I've been running this for about a year. Mainly to avoid i-405 toll-lane fiasco. I have been pulled over once since then (NOT for the plate) and the cop cut me off semi-aggressively and told me to give him my license ASAP before I actually had the chance to pull off to the side. I think that he could not read my plate and was afraid I was gonna run haha. Never said anything about the plate in that traffic stop though.
