I thought so, too.

A hot rod guy, a friend of my brother, collects and races vintage dragsters, gassers and funny cars. I don't remember where he told me he picked it up from. He hired me to clean it up and get it running, so he could use it as a vintage pit bike.

At the time, anyway, it was 100% original and not restored; the only exception being the tires. They were only about twelve years old at the time. With the exception of the front fender repair job, not done by me, the bike was rust free and the paint was original. Everything worked! Less than 4,000 miles on the odometer!

This one came with the optional luggage rack and the optional tachometer. Sadly, the tachometer disappeared sometime before the current owner bought it. Those little tachs, if they work, add about 50% to the value of the bike. The tach drive, mounted to the right side of the camshaft, is still in place and functional. I found a little speedo cable nut that fit and fabbed a little cap to seal it off.

150cc, 16.5hp at 10,500rpm, 9.9ft/lb torque at 9,000 rpm. 4 speed transmission and a manual clutch lever. That bike was a hoot to ride!

S1000R @ Oregon Coast

Maybe not the absolute best pic of my bike but in the top 10: the ride wasn't fast, the corners were sweet but traffic forced me to behave myself. But the perfect sunshine day on the Oregon Coast was nothing short of amazing. And this picture of my S1000R at the start of Otter Crest Loop near Newport OR looks like a BMW ad, so I've been told. One of these days I might get lucky and catch this section of coastline relatively traffic-free...one can always dream.

You almost have to go during the week to get that elusive traffic free day on the coast. But fear not, they're right around the proverbial corner. Excellent area to ride, good choice. Goin out 20 and/or 34 are the shit for riders who like to ride "spirited". There are some twisties out there that are sublime... watch out for the LEO's on the uphill stretch of Hwy 20 tho..
