Please report your (street) tire pressures

my mental model bike is maybe a vfr or fz1 , mid-to-large bike, hundred+ hp and close to 500 lbs wet. riding at "fun street to hell-yeah in the mountains and on the coast" pace in 3 seasons.

front - rear

I am thinking I have been running mine too hard for years. I tend toward liter uprights, ninja 1000, zrx1200, and I have been running like 41 rear and 38 front ("cold" in spring).

I am riding a bandit right now. Dyno is 120/90 and it's kinda heavy, maybe 540.

Last couple of times i rode i was spinning the rear a lot even after riding for half an hour.

Thinking of moving down to maybe 32 front and 34 rear.

I heard a couple of guys say they run the front harder than the rear. That is backwards from my old common sense. But I've learned this year that I have been riding for decades but there are things I do habitually that can be improved still. Like, only this year i learned i have been wearing the wrong size helmet ... since the 80's.

On my ZX14, I run both front and rear at 40 psi. The rear pressure doesn't seem to be sensitive, but if the front drops more than a couple of pounds, the bike tends to stand up in corners, rather than staying put without steering input once the lean angle is established. With 40 psi, steering is neutral in corners. I am using Dunlop Roadsmart tires.

On my Tuono 1100 with Q3+ I run 36ish front and rear. I say "ish" because I don't check them as often as I shoud. I do however air down if I think that I might encounter some illegal gravel/BBQ sauce along the ride.

Totally depends on the bike and tire. I would say you're running high, especially if it's also a harder tire. I run 34 front 38 rear on my FJ-09 with Q3+. I may drop down a bit when I swap to Road 5's.

I've always been a little flexible with tire pressure and adjusted based on riding needs. For trips with luggage and camping gear-- 37 front, 40 rear. For day rides where the fun factor gets dialed up a bit-- 34 front, 36 rear. Bridgestone T31 tires are now on both my bikes and work reasonably well at a fair price.

Z900 on Metzeler M7RRs -- max pressure for those (cold) is 36 psi F, and 40 psi R.

I've found a really nice setup at 33 F, and 31 R (cold). Grip is really good, and ride is relatively comfortable. The spring (according to the manual) is set up for someone who weighs 176 lbs. I weigh 145-150, so I do need to respring it at some point, as it is definitely jarring at low speed, even with the preload backed all the way off, and rebound adjusted.

ZX-10R on Pirelli SC3 slicks on-track - F 34, R 27, hot off warmers. Those pressures are on the high side of what Pirelli recommends, but work really well. If I'm on the street with M7RRs on that bike, I use the 33 F, 31 R (cold), and again, that works really nicely.

Front 33 rear 36 on my FZ-07 with Michelin Road 5’s. Just because that is what the book says. It seems to work so I have not messed with it.

OK so this helps a lot.
Here's a guy who runs it both ways: front harder and rear harder.

So I was all - "Why?"

This is what I can think of: on the street you run the front softer because your max traction demand is likely to be stopping or slowing. So you want a warm, large contact patch.
On the track, I bet, your max traction demand comes when accelerating out of a curve and the rear wheel is the limiting factor and even to the point of it spinning through the whole turn, basically drifting around it.

That's my theoreticising.

I'd add to that the front needs to have some stiffness on the track so that hard braking deforms the tire less, leading to it being less likely to slide while trail braking. Definitely a harder front means you can brake harder, and the bike is a bit more agile. Not to mention limiting dive.

I mount my own tires, and the difference in carcass strength between an M7RR and Metzeler Racetech [track day tire] is night and day. You need to heat the Racetech with warmers to force it over the rim [especially the front], whereas the M7RR will usually go with moderate strength and persuasion.

Dunlop N-Tech slicks, which I used to run, had the nickname "Dunhards" because the carcass is so hard. Dunlop recommended the front pressures at 31-35 psi, rear 21-24 psi. Giving the rear more compliance, and the broadest contact patch possible.
