I've got two Ducati's and a Honda VFR. Someone asked me last week which bike I'd choose if I could only have one. I paused for several moments thinking long and hard and finally said, "The VFR."

I have owned two Harley's but have not had a cruiser for about 10 years. Bought this Kawasaki Drifter last year for under $4000. People think it is a $20,000 Indian. Nice ride. Saved myself $16K at least! Just think of the accessories you can buy with the money you save...

I have also done the whole Harley-Davidson accessory thing on four different bikes. I know this about that: it's a never-ending cycle of chrome bullshit period as soon as you finish one bike you get tired of it, buy a new bike, and start buying Chrome shit all over again. That said, those Harleys were a lot of fun and dead nuts reliable. I just found that the whole cruiser bike thing didn't give me what it is I really like about riding motorcycles which is the dynamic the responsiveness and the g-forces. as far as I'm concerned the way the market is now there is almost never a good reason to buy a new bike from a showroom since there are so many near new bikes on Craigslist. As long as that lasts that's the way I'm going to go.

Wait! Wait! Wait!

You mean to tell us, that you didn't jump on line first, and (dare I say) ask our opinion about "WHAT WE THOUGHT?"

Why you impetuous miscreant. Your going to break the inter-webz.

Simply scandalous.

I hope you'll at least have the good manners to ask us what oil and chain lube you should be using.

Not to derail the thread, but yes on fun, all bike are, but not so reliable according to the HD guys I work with. The new ones are blowing oil out the breathers and having serious electrical problems. The Drifter is one of six bikes I have so I am not stuck with one style of bike.

Go with the VFR. Less 'quirky', less expensive, Honda reliable. If you decide you don't care for it sell it and get the Duc. I had a 500 Interceptor. Fun, fun, fun. The 'harmonic' exhaust note is a joy!

i had the TC88 Harley motors. Best they ever made, IMO. Oh,and I chatted with the Craigslist VFR guy. Kind of mildly douchy attitude, AND it is up in Edmonds (I am in Port Orchard). So I passed. But I was totally gonna buy it even though I have zero need for another bike.

Ducati's remind me of my first wife. Really fun to look at and, well, have 'fun' with, but very, very high maintenance... And expensive. But every now and then there are certain moments of our relationship I think about and I am sure my eyes glaze over and I smile. Probably twitch too...
