Are these the people who build $40000 bikes that get ridden 400 miles in 4 years and then barely sell on craigslist for $4000?

You've not realized that in LWR, the hero is Claudio! That's what we decided the first time through with the sniviling Hollywood Brits (mostly Charley). Claudio (the cameraman who ends up in the film) doesn't get fazed even without having a license to start the trip, having a bike completely fail and ending up on a Russian mini bike!
Definitely worth watching...all BECAUSE of Claudio!

Race to Dakar was epic because Simon Pavey was in it. Simon's finished over 6 Dakar's and is an EPIC racer. If ever there was an ironman list of the toughest motorcyclists, he'd be on the list.
The LongWayDown disappointed, as we didn't get to see Claudio but for a brief cameo appearance. The SCENERY was the take away on LWD.

Ya REALLY, REALLY got to try "RACES TO PLACES".

LYNDON POSKITT IS THE REAL DEAL when it comes to racers who are genuinely nice guys and have the serious wrenching and racing skills to be on the podium in the DAKAR as well as numerous world famous races! I've chatted with him in person and he's one cool dude. An engineer, mechanic, filmmaker and racer in one. He said he can take up to a couple hours a day filming as he rides around the world heading to his next race aboard his KTM FACTORY Rally 690.

Claudio was indeed top drawer; a bit like Ginger Rogers who did everything Fred Astaire did only backwards and in high heels. He rode the same ride as the Hollywood boys and shot a documentary practically solo in the process. I have an idea from experience how much work that is.

OTOH he did BS about his riding experience. No way is a Swiss motorcycle license not valid in the UK and the rest of Western Europe. Of course it bloody is; that was a crock. But top marks anyway for BSing his way into a great gig for which he was genuinely qualified and almost certainly the best candidate. Even if he did fall down a lot.

That kind of fake drama reminds me of the Charley Boorman series "By Any Means", which he cooked up to capitalize on his fame windfall after LWR. I only watched the first episode.

He's going to Australia by first available transport and no air travel -- not unlike Michael Palin -- and he starts by ordering a bespoke bobber based on a Triumph motor from a local factor, purely to ride from his house in Ireland to the ferry terminal. So yeah, the first bit of exciting drama is "oh no is my whizzy new bike going to be ready in time for me to ride the eight miles on it?" Well if it isn't I'm pretty sure there's a bus you could take...
