Representative Valdez of north Seattle has introduced an amendment that would allow cities to pass laws to opt of of the SB6070 parking laws.

The House Transportation Committee will consider that amendment this afternoon.

Although I think that it is unnecessary, the change is reasonable. If a municipality wants to be that recalcitrant (or greedy) then it will have to provide visible signage notifying riders.

Okay, Gumdrops, here is where the rubber hits the road. SB 6070 is on the floor calendar, but it has yet to be "pulled" to the Order of Consideration calendar. Everyone needs to flood the switchboards asking that the House passes the bill, with or without the proposed striker from the Transportation Committee. Call your individual representatives and get the message across.

If you don't know who your reps are (shame on you ) check here.

Update is that the House passed the Parking Bill (SB 6070) as amended by the Transportation Committee 98-0. Now it's back to the Senate for concurrence.

The legislative session ended with SB6070 left on the table.

It was passed by the Senate 45-1
Then amended by the House to add local opt out language and passed 98-0

Because the bill language was not identical the Senate needed to concur with the House version.

That concurrence vote was the only concurrence vote left untouched when the Legislature adjourned tonight.

The party in power did not allow it to be brought up for a vote.

And it's back to the drawing board next year, with whatever power lineup is in place.

On a sidebar note, it doesn't look like the restoration of the NOVA funding didn't make concurrence either.

  Here

So you're still required to park with the wheels parallel to the curb?
