No title

Man am I fried. Yesterday drove a 200 mile round trip to see a nice 82 Yamaha Seca 750 advertised on Craigslist. Called to confirm directions and CLEAN TITLE. Upon arrival had to wait for half hour for the person to show up. We looked it over and talked price. When I asked again about the title I was told he had paperwork to file for lost title! furious: Iíve run into this several times now and it seems like people treat a legal document like itís no big deal. Every time someone buys a bike with no title it makes it worse.

Lying Ckscker!

Always ask for a text or email pic of the Title front and back before you even go to look at it. He could have just said he doesn't have the Title, but then of course it's probably stolen.

And then, what else is he lying about?

BTW, how much was he asking? Not much I hope.

Just took a mental note. That's a good way to do it.

So I take it he did not even go as far as getting the DOL form Release of Interest/Lost Title? I ave done a couple of bikes this way and it is pretty seamless. The DOL issues the form because they show there are no other parties holding a lien and as in the case with a couple of my bikes they were in the 2 or 3 year process of getting restored/customized and no need to license or title them until they go to the new owner. Those parties just took the form in and got the current license registration and the title was then coming in their name. I think it cost 10 bucks. He still should ave been truthful as that is not "Clean Title in Hand".

They had paperwork to file for lost title and wanted me to go to DOL with them to do the change. I probably could have but this day I timed pretty close with family events and I wasnít going to stand in line for who know how long(DOL Saturday morning )

Just as I was replying a few minutes ago I got a call from another bike owner I had been in contact with that has the same title situation on the same make/model as the one in Tacoma. Dad died and mom is going today with power of attorney to get the title. Think I’ll have him text a pic of it. Titles have been a huge issue to me since I lost a car in the Washington state 3 year “title in doubt” process. Rich

BTW it was an 82 Yamaha Seca 750,20,000 mi.beautiful condition, nice cosmetic restoration, asking $1000 firm. He told me on the phone firm, don’t offer less. Course anyone who knows me knows that ain’t gonna happen. When we got to talking price he said make an offer. I said where’s the title? Went downhill from there.

Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black.....when you arranged to go see it, you implied you were going to pay full price, then offered lower. He said he had the title, then offered paperwork.

I've become a fan of unmolested vehicles with a known history. I always start the conversation with asking if they have a clean Washington title in their name. No drama, no problems.

He was asking $1000 firm in the ad.While I was talking to him about it I asked as I always do how much? He said MAKE AN OFFER. He didn’t say $1000 firm. Make offer. Where in that conversation did I say I would pay full asking? If you want to, go ahead and pay full asking price. I don’t.
