Discovered this yesterday on a quick ride for coffee and bread:

If you ride on the grass
youll fall on your ass
and the road is still slippy
cuz the tires aint so grippy
when its wet
and im tryin to go fast

Ow. Ow ow ow.

I only put in earplugs when I'm about to hit the highway. It's the wind noise, pressure and stabby turbulence that gets my ears, not the engine sound, so I'm happy enough bumbling along with full hearing at 55 or under. You're not going to hear your engine much at higher speeds anyway as the mechanical noises are completely drowned out. A good rule of thumb is if the bugs are splatting into me rather than swooshing over me, it's earplug speeds.

Back in a millennium that started with a different digit than this one does I was thinking about buying one of these new Triumphs. But I didn't trust myself with a spankin' new and (to me) overpowered bike as I hadn't ridden since college, so I first let them sell me a Honda 750 Nighthawk they'd taken in trade to make my mistakes on.

When I got around to checking it over the battery was bone dry and the engine oil was so murky it was surely the factory fill -- on a bike with over 13K. Needless to say, I did not go back to that dealer when it came time to get the a bike I really wanted.

Glad you caught it before it went boom at speed...

I always change the oil, plugs and coolant first thing after buying a new (to me) vehicle. The last car I bought had about 2 out of 5 quarts of oil in it before I even bought it. 20k miles since then with zero engine problems. But it's a Toyota...
