The new Kaw Z1 (Z900RS)!

As retro bikes go, this one looks very good and I'm sure it goes well too.

Not bad at all. I have to admit though, that when I scrolled down my initial reaction was "Wow those wheels look weird." The retro look had me expecting narrow spoked 18" and 20" wheels and bicycle tires not modern aluminum 17" wheels and sport rubber.

I could see myself moving the rear pegs out and down and riding with the girlfriend on the back.

There is a pic of it at the link PeteN95 posted.

I like that one also, except for the big honking 900 badging on the side.

Obviously missing the reality that the biggest draw for the younger riders are the "classic" bikes. A quick glance over YouTube channels will show that these millennials are going nuts for CB400s, SR500s, old Suzuki GS's and the like. Triumph is growing, not because of the Daytona, but because of the Retro-Bonnies, Thruxtons and Street Twins. BMW is cashing in with the R9Ts, in all its different forms. This is just Kawi jumping on the bandwagon and trying to make sales to the kids that are avoiding showrooms and buying old used bikes.

It's just tough to love the "melted toy spaceship" look on modern sporty standards like the Z1000. On the other hand, I have zero desire for something completely stuck in the past. I like the Z900RS a hell of a lot better than say the CB1100 because the Kawi is a modern bike under nostalgic styling. They're opposite sides of the same coin: Kawasaki said "lets make this new bike look old" Honda said "lets drag this thing back out of the bin." I wouldn't feel like I have to wear a floppy jacket and throwback helmet on the Z900RS because it is quite clearly a modern bike under the skin.

Waited for a bike like this for a long time,,,,until I saw how far back the footpegs are. That just disqualifies the whole deal for me. Even in the ad pics it show a skinny guy riding it and he has a big old grasshopper bend in his knees. Pegs need to be a couple inches AHEAD of the swingarm pivot. Freekin pity. At this stage in life I can finally afford any bike I want but sadly there aren't any I like cuz they all seemed so cramped up.
