"Motorcyclists are increasingly violating Lane laws"

My mom said she heard this on the radio, so I looked it up:

Motorcyclists are increasingly violating lane laws in Washington

"Emphasis patrols" are happening because of it, apparently. Unless the patrols are using motorcycles themselves, it may be hard to catch offenders though.

I wish they would place emphasis on enforcing the "Keep Right Except to Pass" lane law!

I just wish when they ran stories like this they'd add, in large type, "If you see this do not take any action. A driver who deliberately attempts to block or interfere with another moving vehicle can be charged with reckless or aggressive driving or even vehicular assault, and such actions are likely to result in damage, injury or death to either party or even uninvolved parties."

It should be obvious that when you think you see someone breaking the law it doesn't mean that you can and should stop obeying it yourself, and it certainly doesn't mean your time has come to enforce it like you've always dreamed of. But from the behavior I've seen that's exactly what some drivers think it does mean.

Here is a key quote:

"(Trooper) Bova explains the dangerous riding trend..."

As long as the State Patrol continues to describe lane splitting as dangerous, we are fighting an uphill battle.

And this rather flies in the face of those people saying on the other thread, "We just need to keep breaking the law so that they eventually will change it." Instead, it strengthens the argument that I, and a couple others had, that if motorcyclists keep breaking the law then they won't change the law, just crack down harder on it.

Love this tidbit.

Quote:
Oh, and heres a pro tip for drivers, check your blind spot a lot a motorcyclist who thinks the lane splitting law passed, or is simply ignoring the law, could be speeding up behind you while you are stopped in traffic.
A much more reasonable piece of advice would be: "Pro tip for drivers, stay in the center of your lane and pay attention to what's going on in front of you. Make sure YOU are driving safely first."

What exactly does the author expect a cager stopped in traffic to do? The whole tone of this article is garbage; horribly skewed viewpoint and inflammatory language.

No kidding... I've seen some stupid bicyclists, but this one is real special.

Quote:
Was stopped in traffic because of a school bus loading kids at an apartment building. I see a bicyclist coming up in the bike lane in which the bus is stopped. Instead of stopping for the bus, as the LAW REQUIRES, the bicyclist rode between the bus and the sidewalk, THROUGH the line of kids loading on to the bus and out the other side as if this is another minor inconvenience in her life.

And fuck this bullshit:

Haha yeah, I was sitting in the right lane at a light about to go straight (in the left-side of the lane) and a car driver snuck up next to me to make the right turn. I guess I don't mind since she did it slowly but it was still a surprise lol
There's where I stopped reading the comments, or I'll be seeing red the rest of the day.

I made a comment on MyNorthWorst.com on this subject.

I wrote on myNorthWorst.com as Gremlin72

Legal lane filtering is California's only contribution to a free civilized society. These articles only bring the whiny beige Prius owners out the woodwork to complain they do not get "privilege" to regulated somebody else.

If you think the comments are "dumb" on this subject . Read the comments on the articles on MyNorthWrost.com that have to do with Federal and local Politics. Some people would more productive in their lives playing Candy Crush saga. Than typing out the rubbish they post.

Ya know, I also just read some Kiro 7 Facebook comments on the same article and I really, really, really think about hanging up my spurs.

I love to ride (and I like to be sporty) and I like getting to my destination in a timely manner and I like free parking...but I guess I'll have to be track only.

It honestly had zero clue how people perceive motorcyclists. I am a very honest and nave person and I love my sport. I believe in one life and live it.

But to read comments from soooooooooo many *humans* *citizens* brothers and sisters, moms and dads.....

Say they would intentionally harm/hurt/kill a motorcyclists on a *public forum* is beyond my comprehension.

Exactly. Vicious. I think they are mainly pissed because a cage won't (or shouldn't!) lane split like a motorcycle and they hate seeing #1 get passed by #2, pun intendo or candy crush, take your pick. People living in competition.

That problem is easily solved. Get a bike and stay ahead. You know what happened w/ prohibition. I do love me some root beer though.

It's funny that certain individuals would want to stop someone else's infraction of the law with a felony on their part.

This is something along the lines of waiting at a stop sign with a baseball bat and breaking people's knee caps for not completely stopping.

And this is exactly the point I was trying to make in the other thread. The majority of drivers already perceive motorcyclists as reckless and dangerous. So anytime they see a rider do something like lane split, or filter, or whatever, no matter how safe it's done, it just adds to that perception. And then add to that the idiots out there that think the roads are their personal race tracks or stunt arenas and it just compounds it. Everyone that climbs onto a motorcycle is becoming an ambassador of the sport, it doesn't matter if you want to be or not, that is the reality. How you behave while riding has an impact on how other riders will be seen.

Volume

It's all about volume or quantity.
Everyone is splitting the lane in Bangkok just like farting in public.

When you have billions of followers, you and your buddies are able to break the law and still be okay with it.

If you don't believe it, just ask the pope.
