Yes, we should definitely discount the unanimous science today of the effects of global warming because one professor in 1968 made some erroneous predictions in a popular book.

It's actually the centrists that would lose to Trump. The "far left" (Bernie and Warren) would beat him handily. Bernie at least, Warren takes his bait too much.

65 million Americans would die of starvation between 1980-1989 and that by 1999, the US population would decline to 22.6 million

You are just the latest useful ... uh ... people in a long string to believe utter crap. But please live your lives in small bubbles and leave the fun and adventure to the rest of us.

Here is a series of short term prediction that are testable:

The Democrats will nominate a far left zealot because their supporters live in a far left echo chamber.

That nominee will lose to Trump.

America’s environmental policies will not change.

The latest wave of stupid claims made about the environment will turn out to be false, and nobody will mention that when the next wave of hysteria hits.
Youtr right, the poles arnt melting, the earth isnt warming, big business should just dump the toxic waste in the river, there are no fires in california its all just “fake news” and trump is the one true god. I dont know what were all so worried about mikemikemike says everthing is just fine. I still think that kawi is going to sound good pumping out some carbon at 20k rpm.

That's a little sad in some ways, because I enjoy riding a big thumping twin cylinder internal combustion bike. 125 years ago people probably cherished their favorite buggy whips, too.

Lol read carefully, the climate is warming, and humans have an impact on that. But, our carbon emissions will continue to increase for the foreseeable future globally, and we have an endless inventive capacity to deal with the impact of climate change. I bring up the Population Bomb for two reasons, first irony is lost on most people and having a reminder of how wrong we have been is important for both sides, and the author was right in predicting a population explosion. But he was dead wrong in predicting the outcomes because he couldn’t foresee technologies that were developed that radically increased food production amongst other details.

That’s my only point, live you life and do what feels right. But this election will be decided by 7 states, and those are blue collar places where economics are key and if the democrat nominee doesn’t resonate with those people it won’t matter how many votes they get in California.

I wish that AOC was going to be old enough to run for President in 2020. That would make the Dem's loss in 2020 even more hilarious than their loss in 2016 was.

We need an AOC meme thread...

LOL, that is the point; we have been very wrong in the past. And what makes you think we won’t be wrong about the “endless capacity to deal” now?

I have read the science and have read the supposed geoengineering fixes proposed and they will either not work or will solve one problem by creating many more.

We can fix this by doing what scientists tell us, namely stop all carbon output, go to renewable non carbon energy now, stop eating meat, stop crazed capitalist over consumption. But we are ignoring the real fixes.

The real issue is will we be able to cooperate as a unified world to solve a global problem? Because that is what it will take. We have the capacity to change and fix problems. But will we? Rising nationalism is making that look more and more unlikely.

I have my doubts because right now science is telling us facts and what we face if we don’t act immediately and we are collectively acting as if it is all a fantasy or we will just deal with whatever comes. So, we are failing. And electing a guy who does not believe in the crisis and is doing everything he can to make the problem as bad as possible will not be our salvation. Win an election, lose the ecosystem.

The problem is that by the time enough people see the results in their daily lives, it will have been a decade too late to stop the worst. Every additional carbon molecule we put into the atmosphere now will have multiplied dire effects in our future.

Scientists believe the ecosystem has tipping points when systems are stretched only so far and then they fail. They believe we are reaching those now as the oceans have absorbed over 80% of the heat generated and is not able to absorb more. Now is when the system breaks down and it will be hundreds of thousands of years before the planet is able to go back to being this hospitable.

So, we are already set to hit 4 degrees warmer at our fuck-the-Paris-voluntary-accords response. Read up on what life will be like on a planet that much warmer. Even at two degrees, governments are expected to collapse around the world. Hundreds of millions will have to move to a more hospitable climate. Maybe our population bomb author’s projections were just a little delayed.

Unanimous science you say? LOL (I really did). Solar minimum is a thing and you should probably look into it. I remember when we hit peak oil in the 70's right before China & India industrialized and started using orders of magnitude more of the stuff. I also remember at the same time how the globe was cooling and this would cause food shortages that were going to kill us all. Surely you have all the facts right.

LOL, I had to go back and see how all this started, and started on post #8.

I'd love to have one of these bikes in my garage!

And to followup with all the rest of the posts...................I'll just stick with a quote from a particular book, "When you see these things come to pass, no that I am at the door."

Now I'm going to go for a ride............wait, nope, going for a run instead......

OK, I have it figured out.

A hybrid.

You put an electric motor in there as a torque-assist device that only kicks-in when moving away from a stop. The electric motor enhances the gas motors power for the first few mph and / or until the engine gets up to like 8 or 9 thousand rpm and then it shuts off and the gas motor recharges it when it isn't under heavy load, like on the freeway.

Like a JATO engine.

I give this idea to the world as a gift, for free.

Now, make it so.

well, the magnetic poles are pretty much GONE, and the sun is reversing its actual polarity, and the red spot on jupiter is disappearing, and venus is growing an atmosphere, and now there's water on mars and goo on the moon.

but, yeah, its your cars.

when i bought a full-electric vehicle, 6 years ago, I received a govt subsidy of 7000 off the 40000 price.

that subsidy is over now.

but, this - there's a few things about e-vehicles you might want to keep in mind: (from a guy who paid a LOT of money for one, and who has since sold it for almost no money)...

1. Laptop battery. It's gonna die, and you will not want to replace it because cost. Every day available range goes down. If you do not own an e-vehicle, you cannot comment on this. Opinions don't matter. Physics matters. And at some point the vehicle becomes a white elephant. In my case, it would have been about 8000 dollars for a new battery, in a car worth less than that, AND it would have been the same old Gen 1 battery. Car companies are NOT your friends, even Tesla.

2. Range. Sorry, but you will need another vehicle. Your e-vehicle is for around town only. You are not gonna wait around to charge it anywhere. In the 6 years of e-vehicle ownership, I charged away from home zero times. One side effect of the willy nilly move to e-vehicles is that we are effectively putting range limits on ourselves. We simply will not drive an e-car from Seattle to San Francisco (or even portland) the way we can in a gas car. And so when gas gets more scarce and more expensive we are gonna be whining that we can't GO anywhere any more. We will have done it to ourselves.

3. Control. Go ahead and try to mod or even repair your Tesla. Go ahead. You cannot. E-cars will be deeply involved in the "right to repair" fiasco you are unaware of. Ask farmers about John Deer and software.

Just saying. This is a move (to battery cars) we are not any more prepared for than we were for cellphones. And we know how well THAT thing is turning out.

Um, o.k... My point was, in the 70's we had the same hysteria, whipped up by scientists, only it was reverse of today. Did we actually reach peak oil? Obviously not as gas is stupidly cheap right now. Did we have an ice age? Right now we are told it is the reverse. How dare I question the all-knowing science! Hey, maybe the answers are in Jupiter, Venus, Mars, or maybe even the moon. Getting the truth from Earth does not seem to be accurate. Keep your head in the clouds (and the rubber side down)!
