Interesting mini GPS on Indiegogo

If this unit really works it might help a lot of people recover their stolen bikes. Small enough to hide somewhere a thief couldn't find it without doing some major disassembly.

This is one of those things that need to be seen actually mass-produced and WORKING before you trust. That battery is really, really small, even by small battery standards.

Also in their parts diagram on the indigogo page they have the chips incorrectly labeled.

There's also a distinct issue of shielding of the antennae from certain other components inside which will harm function.

it *might* work. but i'll believe it when I see it. I have a feeling like most successful crowd funded products they'll spend all the money ramping up production, have quality control issues, then be left over with little money to actually fix it.

Buyer Beware!

For Ping to be found anywhere in the world it needs to use a cellular signal, just like your mobile phone.
Which is in contrast to the claim:

I was a bit surprised to see the battery life claim coupled with the battery size specification. Reading the information they posted it sounds as if this is listening for a "find me" command through the cell network and then listen to GPS for a position fix and finally reply back via cell network with the location. This allows them to operate with GPS off until location information is required.

I would love to see them pull this off but I am rather skeptical that this will really hit the market and meet the claims made.

I have seen a lot of these crowd funding endeavors fall flat on their face, but this one looked interesting enough to share. I'm not very savvy when it comes to this type tech, hopefully they can actually pull it off.

Iota is another option. It doesn't rely on bluetooth, and the battery lasts many weeks.

I did a little motorcycles color commentary for a review a friend did.
