Is it possible?! Could we get not one but two sporty American bikes? HD and Indian ditching their chrome and fringe to make bikes that aren't just rolling la-z-boys? Who needs flying cars - this is a future I can live with!

HD tried the flat track style retro bike, The XR1200X it made about 90 HP, sold ok in Europe, and everyone begged HD to release it in the USA, Guess what..Crickets it sat in the HD show rooms collecting dust, the HD crowd would not touch it, discontinued...

I hear Ducati's new scrambler, another kinda cool bike, like the indian above, has or will have a 1200, lets see if that sells, I doubt it.

HD has the Street Rod 750, which is a pair of rearsets and pipes away from competing with a Ninja 650R / Z650 or SV 650 or FZ-07. The wide tank is about the only thing keeping my girlfriend from loving it. Honda with the CB1100 and Kawasaki with the Z900RS are just begging HD to step up for a fair fight. Progress!

Ducati's mid-displacement Scramblers are selling well enough. Between all the variants, there were roughly a dozen at the last Backfire I went to.

Heh... I feel like I'm rooting for HD to come around the same way people root for a "slow" little league team. Just a little more practice and they'll be able to play with the other (normal) kids!

that's cuz it was a crap bike, and not because no one wants a fun flat-track profile motorcycle. it was almost 600 pounds and was in no way a flat-track kind of bike. it was a half-assed attempt from the get-go.

Not that one. The 'XR 1000' from back in the 80's. Twin carbs like the real XR's. I nearly bought one. This one was much later and yes, a half assed attempt. It did not sell either.

I'm waiting for someone at Indian to take the 750 flat track motor they are already using to win races and make

1. A Scrambler...
2. An Adventure bike...

That'd be nice...

If the 750 motor is about the same weight as the 1130 Scout motor, I think I'd take the larger, more reliable version.
