Actually found a 2008 BMW1200 GS Adventure in excellent shape with 16k miles. For $8500.

Pretty sure that’s a fair price but it’s a little difficult to tell. Prices are all over the place on those.

If it were me,and you're not. I'd be looking for the newest bike with the least amount of miles on it. I know bmws are great bikes, but that one is 10 yrs old. I know what it's like having the urge to replace your bike, but just keep looking, there's a great bike out there, just got to find it. I'm picking up a new Ktm 690 enduro here in a week,I have half down on it right now, just need to get the boat to Seattle, offload a million pounds of frozen fish, get the holds clean and go put the boat away in lake Union and then hopefully go get it Friday or Saturday.

I like the Triumph better, but if you are considering going off road at all I think the BMW has lower center of gravity. It seems to me that on a single track or rutted road it could be wresting match with the Tiger. PDX has a very active Triumph group called TRAP with a Tiger section, next meet up is in May at Beaverton across from the RAT dealer, I’m sure they would give you some input.

I use the motorcycle to commute daily (ferry). My wife needs the van at home for the kids.

Itís costing me about $50/day right now to not have a motorcycle, so I am in a bit of a rush.

2008 is older, but itís 5 years newer than the VROD was and the expected mileage for that year is 40k+.

I agree patience usually wins out, but this is simply costing too much.

And I will occasionally be hitting trails in pursuit of secret fishing spots, so the lower CoG will probably be good.

In that case I personally wouldn’t be bothered by something older, you will want to check the tire date, if they are out of date don’t ride it without changing them, old bike tires do not behave like old car tires, especially in the rain. I would also check the other rubber bits for ozone damage, see if the gas had been treated properly when stored. I don’t care what anyone says, ethanol is shite for power sports that sit a lot. With that mileage that’s a fair amount of sitting.
Beyond that, having owned an R100RS I have found BMW’s support for older bikes to be much better than Triumph’s.

Nice find!! See people commuting on those all year round. Even had a couple show up to a track day on a pair of them! What a complete change from a Vrod lol. And there is tons of farkles and doodads for them. Kinda like all the stuff you can get for a Harley...,

I kinda miss my old 2007 Vulcan for distance. Got about 55 mpg, it was only a 500, but it had some decent get-up-and-go for a cruiser (used to pass much bigger Harleys)... I might move to the 900 version, but I miss the hell outta that bike.

Took a passenger without even feeling it... shoulda never traded that thing in. X-/
