But the OP wants a cruiser. Why do people who don't like cruisers feel the need to comment on threads about them?

See, I never really considered the Max a cruiser, though Yamaha called it a "Power Cruiser". To me it was more a standard, the big brother to the Radian and the Fazer.

Original Max had neither of those. Notice, feet behind knees, hands at stomach level. Not a cruiser.

And as a reminder of what Japanese "cruisers" looked like back then, here's the 1100 Virago. They were horrible attempts at copying HDs image.

And compared to a real cruiser it's not even close. That would be like saying that compared to my Dyna, my old VF700 Sabre was a sportbike.

  Here

Speaking of Guzzis and closer to your price range, the V9 Bobber and Roamer are in shouting distance of $9K -- pre tax, setup and licence, of course -- at the dealer, this takes into account a factory discount.

I've ridden the Bobber: the fat front tire and the blacked out look are not to my taste. The Roamer's a better looking bike to my eye and about half a kilobuck cheaper, but they didn't have the demo for that one prepped in Portland when I tried it. To me they feel a little bit insubstantial; so maybe not a big guy's bike. I'm average sized and felt like it didn't carry enough heft for me. All the same it might be worth a test ride at Moto International.
