Thumbs up Forest Superbike

First of all i want to appologise to all the Duel Sport guys that saw the title and was expecting some bad ass off road action...

I found a zx10r in a place it should have not been, abandon in the wood. Here is a cleaned up version of what i posted on the other sight with some updated information added in.

September 2015, I'm elk hunting, top of a ridge old logging road and what do I find... 2006 zx10r. Bears have popped the tires, bite marks all over the faringís, punctures here and there the radiator hose was chewed on pretty good. I call state police dispatch, plates run clean not showing up stolen missing ect.. Itís clearly been here a year or so. Tags expire in 2012...
Next obvious thing for me to do was to contact DMV, There is a Lien holder. The lean holder in Texas, a dealership in Roseburg who sold the bike after it was traded in on a vehicle. The bank that held the note was paid off by their insurance company after buyer failed to make payments as agreed. The insurance company put a lien on the title and tried for 1 year or so to locate the real property. After not being able to locate it they wrote it off as a total loss. I found the bike on the side of a mountain. (Start of the thread) I made an offer to the insurance company and they conditionally accepted. The insurance company then send a letter of intent to the buyer and asked for the loss to be reimbursed. Buyer did not respond in the 30+ days after receipt of letter of intent (that is all the insurance rep would tell me) and the door opened wide for me to purchase the title. The bike has a clean title, I was able to purchase it for $200.
Yes you read that right. $200.

So much win in this deal.. I charged the battery, changed all the fluids, air filter and of course it started right up.. all electronics check out. I put on a new chain, sprockets, seat covers and foam, a clutch kit. I also replaced the seals in the forks, and new tires. Right upper faring, (thank you Craigslist..) Work left to do, I still have to replace the brake pads. I am in the process of getting the suspension dialed in, there is very little sag if any. I have not put an aftermarket faring kit on it, kind of like it all scratched up with teeth marks and punctures. This bike has a strong Pacific Northwest image thing going on, and character like no other. ☺

Pics to come...

Hunting was good, my hunting buddy should practice a little more shooting. He missed with his Bow at 18 yards. Those Elk are big when they are close. Next year he will do better.

I played the lottery until I realized I'm wasting my project money. I had a lot of help from my 13 year old daughter who is now a grease monkey ... she loved doing a clutch rebuild. From that point forward I resourced the parts and provided the muscle and she did everything else, oil change, antifreeze, bleeding the brakes, fork seals, ect....

Here are curent pics.
