The first 1000 Miles

The first 1000 miles on the Pan America. Great so far, no problem scrubbing the pimples off the chicken strips after breaking in the tires. Power as advertised, lots of bottom end grunt, smooth wide power band that comes on with out any hesitation. Vibration free, pegs n seating seem about right though the first couple 100 mile jaunts seating felt a bit "confined" as in not being able to move around but may take some getting used to. Electronics to acquaint myself with, kinda like getting a new smart phone with stuff ya never heard of or expected...so far so good.

Good to hear. This bike is much more interesting to me than the new Sportster.

After seeing HD make that kind of power with hydraulically adjusted valves makes me wonder why this isn't more common on motorcycle engines that don't rev to the moon.

Do you intend to do a bit of off road with it?

I look forward to hearing more comments and reviews from you. Thanks for posting.

As for hydraulic lifters, HD been using them for decades, but in any application BT or Sportster rarely revving past 6500. Dont know how they're accomplishing this with red line at 9500, I've only hit 7500 or so so far and SO much power in a short time, bravery issue here, one would have to have a large open place and not sure I'd want to be holding it there long just to see if the lifters are collapsing. Surely(?) HD has tested this.
As for off road...I bought this to take anywhere I want to go, it's not a Starbucks Queen n dirt washes off. On gravel so far it does well, nicely balanced n responsive as anything else I suppose. As good as the 1250GS's I've tried. The suspension settings make a NOTICEABLE difference. How far off road you ask?, double track, single track? At my age (75) pushing n heaving has been replaced with a modicum of, I'd like to think, common sense.

Went to take off Tuesday morning with friends and wouldn't start....something killed the battery. Owens was here and had it loaded in their truck within an hour of the phone call and discussion with the service manager, 80 miles each way. Further discussion and looking up on the web, apparently there is a software glitch(?) that kept the suspension computer running. Experienced by a few other PA owners, being addressed with a service bulletin. They're doing the 1000 mile service while it's there....good on 'em. This attention to service is one of the reasons I bought HD. Not to fear...there's still the 85 Ironhead Sportster waiting in the corner for exercise.

Got it back, serviced. The battery drain was apparently a mapping glitch with the Suspension computer, wasn't quite shutting off all the way. They "flashed" it and put in a new battery. Seems ok ..so far
Now for some miles!

Looking at Harleys offering for the radiator guard for $150 n how cheezy it looked - did the same thing yesterday for $17.50 at Home Depot and an hour o' my time. Now it's readyto roll.

Forget trying to post pictures through pnwmoto directly. Mr. Beans did not make it user friendly.

Best and easiest way, use pnwmoto through Tapatalk. Take a picture with your phone, upload on pnwmoto through Tapatalk and done. Takes like 2 minutes.

Youy could also use Imgur to host the images. It's not as convenient as hosting on PNWMoto, but you do retain more control of your pictures.
