Fee on electric motorcycles

Just found out that our legislature increased annual fee on electric vehicles, including motorcycles, by $75/year, on top of the existing $150 fee on electric vehicles, and all the other fees on all the vehicles.

http://lawfilesext.leg.wa.gov/bienni...2042-S2.PL.pdf

I love the crooked logic:
18 To realize the environmental benefits of electrification of the
19 transportation system it is necessary to support the adoption of
20 electric vehicles and other electric technology in the state by
21 incentivizing the purchase of these vehicles, building out the
22 charging infrastructure, developing greener transit options, and
23 supporting clean alternative fuel infrastructure. Therefore, it is
24 the intent of the legislature to support these activities through the
25 imposition of new transportation electrification fees
in this
section.
Note that this is majority Democratic legislature, so they don't even have an excuse to blame the evil Republicans.

Fees are the opposite of incentive. But if the money for infrastructure is needed, it makes sense some of it comes in user fees. It would be smarter to stop subsidizing the fossil fuel industry and apply those billions to the renewable industry, as far as federal dollars.

And of course Dems are supporting taxes to pay for shit. They realize not everything needed can be paid for through deficit spending (an oxymoron) or the free market.

But it's good for you! You'll be happy in the end.

Doesn't matter what "it" is, the government will levy a tax. Haven't you learned this yet? Crack an early American history book. We're just circling back around.

ive been paying an extra few hundred on my electric car registration every year since about 2013. it pissed me off at first ,but then i stopped worrying (and learned to love the b0m) because they can take whateverthefuck they want and there's basically nothing we can do about it.

well, except to cheat at every opportunity, which is kinda fun.

Especially on the things they claim to want more of.

Well, at first, there was tax break on electric cars. Things started moving in that direction, just barely.

What's worse is the idiots who gobble up this Orwellian stuff.

It is, sorta, but this is how civic society breaks down. I lived in couple other countries, where everyone cheats as a matter of fact. I much prefer this one, where most people are being honest most of the time for no apparent reason.

Complaining about taxes. How original.

The OP leaves out the part of this bill that GIVES tax breaks for the purchase personal and commercial EVs, begins the process to BUILD a recharge infrastructure, all to reduce toxic gases produced by burning for propulsive fuel. Why won't the legislature just let us destroy the planet in peace?

Brief Summary of HB 2042:

Ÿ Makes permanent the Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure grant program and expands eligibility to include hydrogen fueling station infrastructure.
Ÿ Reinstates the alternative fuel vehicle retail sales and use tax exemption for vehicles priced at $45,000 or less, with the exemption applying to $32,000 of the vehicle price in the first two years, $24,000 in the second two years, and $16,000 in the third two years, and expands it to include used vehicles priced at $45,000 or less, with the exemption applying to $16,000 of the vehicle price for the duration of the exemption qualification period.
Ÿ Raises the total registration renewal fee for alternative fuel vehicles from $150 to $200 for 10 years; uses $200 of the fee to fund alternative fuel vehicle sales and use tax incentives and the Alternative Fuel Infrastructure grant program for five years and uses $100 of the fee for these purposes after five years.
Ÿ Extends, modifies, and expands to alternative fuel vehicle infrastructure the alternative fuel commercial vehicle business and occupation and public utility tax credit program.
Ÿ Extends the EV battery and infrastructure sales and use tax exemption and expands it to include batteries sold as a component of electric buses and zero- emission buses.

Ÿ Extends the leasehold excise tax exemption for public land used for the purpose of EV infrastructure.
Ÿ Establishes a retail sales and use tax exemption for new powertrains for vessels that are powered by certain battery-powered electric propulsion systems and for vessels equipped with these powertrains.
Ÿ Establishes a capital grant program to assist transit authorities in fleet electrification.
Ÿ Establishes a technical assistance and education program on alternative fuel vehicles for public agencies within Washington State University's Extension Energy Program.
Ÿ Establishes the authority of public utilities to offer electrification incentive programs, and amends provisions authorizing investor-owned utilities' incentive rate of return on investments in EV supply equipment.
Ÿ Establishes an alternative fuel car sharing pilot grant program to support car sharing for underserved communities and lower income workforce members.
Ÿ Authorizes the Department of Commerce to conduct a study on reducing barriers to EV adoption by lower income residents of the state through the use of financing assistance.

I like how the OP, via his follow-up comments, makes snarky comments about one party, taxes and governance, while also making it abundantly clear that he DID NOT READ the entire bill before he decided to let us all know how uninformed are his views.

Here's something everyone can do this beautiful morning.

Take a deep breath, walk out to the curb of your street, take a 360 view your surroundings, the realize virtually EVERYTHING you see which is man-made is the result of our governance and tax-paid infrastructure.

If you don't know why my above statement is true, then please learn why,.

My street doesn't have a curb. And when I do a 360 the only man-made things created by the government are roads and the utility poles. Everything else was built by hardworking individuals. The beauty of not living in the city.

Government employees are also harworking individuals. I was one myself for years. I worked as hard before I was a government worker as after I left civil service. Maybe the only difference was I felt I was doing truly needed work.

The gas tax revenue was pretty much lost with EV, so they had to do something to regain that tax revenue.

Don't steal as the government hates the competition...
