Or we get rid of the useless dregs natural selection would have weeded out that are just using resources and polluting the environment.

The teleportation booths will make that unnecessary.

Only if we build 1000s of nuclear power stations.

Here's one study on the energy demand of that hypothetical scenario, i.e. "imagine everything else remains the same but all cars are electric." Interesting stuff.

(TL,DR: "1000s of new nuclear power stations" is a solid four orders of magnitude high in the most pessimistic imaginable scenario.)

We are well beyond hope at this point. We have three years to substantially change our ways. Ten years is when all the changes have to be in place to prevent the worst imaginable. It is now a question of how fucked we want to be.

I've been hearing the same predictions for the last 40 years.

That said, are you working on convincing the environmentalists to start supporting 1000s of nuclear power stations being opened every year? Because that's the only viable option.

You are not going to be happy. A new battery for my 2012 Leaf is WAY out of the question. $$$. About $8,500.00 as of last Spring. https://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?t=25882

A conversion kit will have a battery not much cheaper, IMO. And you have to add-in the costs of all the ancillary gear for a kit as well as for your garage (you are going to want a 220 charger).

We are a LONG way from commodity batteries for EV's. Are there aftermarket batteries for a Leaf? I can't find one. And it was made starting in 2010.

And there is going to be a pretty big demand because every single EV, every one of them, is going to need a new battery at least once, and the cheap-ass Asian ones are going to need several.

But as of now, the EV game is a loser. A $5,000.00 2004 Civic beats a Leaf in every measure of practicality and efficiency. I bet it stays that way for . LONG time unless they use the law to "help" market forces along.

for the last 40 years people have been saying we need to clean up our act...in 1971 the clean air and water act passed giving us some time...if it hadn't been passed we would truly be fucked...no one over all of those years was claiming that we only have a very short short period of time...there were people claiming that's what the scientist were saying..but those were generally the lying apologist for the oil companies...I'm not sure where you think that 1000s of Nuke plants are even wanted by anyone..other than in some deluded dreams of anti-environmentalist...considering it's the worst option after all...can you say Chernobyl? how about three mile island? tell me were you alive and witnessing the smog alerts of the late 60's and early 70's that actually killed people? I lived through smog alerts in Boston and you couldn't see a half mile down the road...lake erie caught on fire in 1969...

How else are you going to replace the electricity from all the fossil fuel burning plants, plus extra needed to charge all the electric cars? Solar/wind/hydro is not going to cut it if the danger is absolutely imminent.

Cleaning air and water is essentially very simple, just filter out the pollutants at a slightly higher cost of production. With fossil fuels, the pollutant IS the essential product of the energy production.

And yes, I've been hearing about the imminent danger of global warming for a few decades. That's how I know that people shouting about this imminent danger are not serious - otherwise they wouldn't be opposing the only known viable solution.
