I hit the jackpot too, but then when we first met (winter 1981) I walked into the local gathering place with a frozen beard and had a Triumph parked in the parking lot, so she knew that I came with motorcycles.

Mine wasn't that bad as we weren't old enough to drive when we first met.

  Here

Stopped by Cascade Moto because I noticed they have an unusual number of really interesting bikes in their used inventory.

There's a 2011 Sprint GT with about 360 miles on it. That's not an abbreviation or a typo; one of those "older buyer bought it and it took him this long to realize he was never going to ride it" deals you see every now and then. The ask is around $8K, original list was $13K. It's a sport tourer that really is both; probably not the right fit for the OP. Riding position is sport, and it's way less faired-in than it looks; the blast is guided around you but you still feel out in the open.

They've also got a white Tiger 800 ABS with less than 7K miles for $7.5K and no marks apart from a little scuffing on one of the small matte black plastic pieces whose whole purpose is to get scuffed so nothing else does.

Also a really nice 2012 Guzzi Norge in white with 10K miles, and other cool stuff. Hate to sound like an ad but I drop by there every few months and I've never seen a stable of used bikes I liked more, and if someone's shopping for a little-used two-up with tons of charisma they might want to drop by. Not all of them are on their web page.

The GT is an evolution of the ST. It has bigger bags and side exhaust instead of undertail. The headlights are a bit different and there are other minor changes from the ST but it is largely the same bike.

Bar risers are available to make it more upright as are touring windscreens.

I had an 06 ST that I put about 30k on in 4 years of year round riding. It was a great bike but when I got my Conny I didn't feel the need for 2 baggers and wanted something with more sport so I traded it for my Busa.

there's a Duc ST3 on CL for low-to-no money right now. Might be a fun way to try out a bagger.

Closing the loop...

Saturday I reminded my wife that I found a 2008 Concours with only 3100 miles on it plus well within the budget. She just looked at me and said
"Sorry, I forgot to tell you that the shop called on Wednesday to say your bike is fixed".
She did say that she'd drive me to the dealer to buy the other bike if I still wanted it.

Sadly, I can't justify buying a second bike that will sit in the garage for the next 6 months, especially since it's not Kawi green. Maybe by then I'll have talked @Sentinel into just giving me his.

So, I'm back on two wheels, just in time for the rain and cold weather.

And that was the problem. In an era of declining ridership in this country it doesn't seem prudent to charge that kind of money for what most Americans consider a toy.

I don't know. It was ready Wednesday and she is just now telling you? Time to get rid of her.

All I can say is, I would never enter the door of that shop again, and spread the word. There is no good reason for taking that long. EVER!

It was two shops, one geared towards sport bikes but highly recommended by my normal mechanic (he doesn't have the tools for that type of work). They are the ones that had it for so long and in their defense, I didn't have an appointment to begin with and they tried to fit me in as time allowed. It was prime race season so they were a little on the busy side. They also moved during that time.

The second shop was the dealer and it took them a week to get parts plus the mechanic working on it quit part way through to work somewhere else.

Out of curiosity, what was wrong with it?

I don't run a bike shop but have acquired enough tools that there isn't much I can't do to a bike short of ECU controlled stuff and specialized shit on Ducs or Beemers.

It would benefit you to learn to do things on your bike, if you are going to keep riding. Most of it is pretty straight forward. It also helps if you are out somewhere, and break down, to be able to fix, or mcGiver it.
