An argument for hi-viz and blinkies

this is how an average texting-driver sees you on your bike. focus is inside the car. rider is insignificant environmental blip.

feeling the need for some screaming yellow and flashy thingies.

just thought the picture was fun.

Hard to say if it would just be more 'target fixation' or if it would help. I have been commuting on I-5 a lot for the last three weeks and I can report the texting morons are still out there in force.
This morning there was a guy in a suit and nice car scrolling his phone and messaging right beside me. In bumper to bumper. In the rain. Going between about 15-35 MPH as traffic surged. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

Just one more example of why new laws don't do much if anything to solve the problem.

There's a certain irony in the fact that the company responsible for a great many of the phones that human drivers are distracting themselves with is developing the self-driving cars that suddenly don't seem so scary by comparison...

I was reading an article today about AI. The dudes trying to make it acknowledged the whole Terminator problem, but they were like - "but FIRE is a good tool even if sometimes people's houses get burned down."

My point? It seems like the world keeps changing and no one is asking us if we want any of the shit they keep throwing at us.

Did anyone ask you if you wanted robocars on your highways?

Did anyone ask you if you were cool with them unleashing HAL9000 onto your world?

I am firmly, dedicatedly in the "robot-smash" tribe. Those things are NOT walking the streets with me unless they are under armed guard.

Think about that. Those things, some of them, are going to be insanely expensive. They are going to hire actual armed guards to keep people from fucking with expensive public-facing robots. The robots are going to be "worth" more than YOU as far as everyone but YOU is concerned.

That shit is going to be codified into law. Humans are going to be jailed for shit like "tampering" with whateverthefuck legal entity name they give to robots.

But, Dave, you will say. There are already laws against damaging property, and robots are property so there is nothing new there.

WRONG! THis new "thing" comes with a new paradigm attached. The paradigm insertion is what they are after, and not whatever profits they can sneak out of robots. It is encullturation in progress. I hate to use a trigger phrase, but this is Metropolis, NWO stuff.

And in case you still disbelieve, see below: a robot already has citizenship. They don't give "citizenship" to refrigerators and forklifts.

That...thing...and all of its kind...need to be killed before they reproduce. With prejudice.

We deserve what we accept.

An even more basic question is that just because we can do it, should we do it?

Once we got rid of natural selection we are just slowly poluting the gene pool, right along with the environment we need to survive, imo maby not the human race but society as we know it is doomed.
