Street fighters need love too

I bought this one from the original owner, who crashed it on the track way back in 1989. I've owned it since mid-2014.

I cobbed together the plastics and rode it that way for a while, but its very aggressive, full-tuck-only riding position made it unbearable for long-distance rides. I decided to chuck the fairings and clip-ons, relocate the coils and the fuel petcock, and install a handlebar and some bucket headlights that were given to me.

Though I occasionally dream of fabricating a new tail sub-frame and doing other stuff to make a proper bobber out of it, it remains an ugly, old, but well-maintained street fighter.

Anyone else here have an ugly bike that they just love to ride?

I think your the last of a dying breed on the forum Dave. The last joker I remember who loved a good ol' naked bike ended up on the back of an Acura. :(

Haven't heard from him since.

:smoke: .....

I bet you get some looks........"What is that?"

Great transformation!

Dave, I can't wait to see that critter on the annual Chinook Pass ride. I even promise to be on time this year. :)

Thanks, everybody.

I found a 'before' photo. Thought I'd plunk it down here as well:

Here's a few of your bike before Dave.

From the Galenpalooza II.5 Run. With a 100% less Galen added.

Hey, thanks Greg. I knew someone had some pics of it. Just couldn't remember who.

Most times when I'm out on a ride on an older bike, some old Geezer will come up to me and invariably start saying, "Nice bike, I used to have an XYZ yadda-yadda-something or other."

I've never understood why they feel it necessary to inform me about about some bike they 'used to have'. They don't have it now, and they're certainly not riding anymore.

I want to hand 'em a dime and say "Call someone who cares". And then wait for them to tell me how much a phone call costs now (as if you can even find a pay phone anymore).

But I don't. That would be mean. And they might push my bike over after I leave. I just try to remember not to be an Old Geezer when I grow up.

Well, that's good.

Guess you will Die before I do!

See ya! :p

You don't know if they have a bike or not. He may have a big collection. Many uncaring squids treat older folks with disdain. But guys like him have already outlived many younger riders who think their skill set is way above what it really is. I'm almost 70 and have a lot of riding miles but I've always listened with respect to other people of any age about shared interests. It's not about who dies first or last. That's already set in humankind. Listen and learn with respect and humility.

There's one in Petrolia CA and it has a dial tone. Part of the Lost Coast Highway ride....

I'm a retired phone company network technician. I can find dial tone anywhere with my test set.
