Super cool until $30k!

Im not a fan but at least hd is trying something new. I do like the more modern forks , swing arm, frame, brakes and the pegs look to be in a better spot, starting at 30k puts it way out of my range but it is hopefully an untapped market for them.

Tesla is now the #1 luxury brand. Not Mercedes or BMW or the Japanese up-brands.

I drive an electric car. I love it, and I prefer electric cars to engine cars. I'd drive a Tesla if you gave it to me. But there's one fatal flaw in the battery vehicle: battery death WILL happen.

My 2012 Leaf is worth approx $0.00 on Craigslist. It might be worth something in parts though. The parts are sweet. That motor is really nice. But the battery will be trash soon, and a new one is WAY too expensive.

Your $30,000.00 eHarley will have the same problem.

You can upgrade for $6800. https://cleantechnica.com/2016/01/19...ing-to-48-kwh/

Or, Leaf offers a $2800 rebuild. https://www.greencarreports.com/news...-battery-packs

H-D originally touted the e-hog for a 2016 release.

Here's Scarlett Johansson's stunt double riding the concept version in Avengers: Age of Ultron:

if you go to the stealership for the new battery it's way too expensive...if you do it yourself it's not as bad by half...

That is precisly why i dont like electric power vehicles, when a motor goes on my bikes 1k$ later i got a low mile motor good for anothe 20k+ miles, as the battery charge dies so does the performance and you dont just stop and put more gas in it.

Check the used prices on Tesla. They hold value better than almost everything. Not sure why.

Harley is more akin to Tesla, if they manage to pull the PR right.

I hope, and expect Harley has paid attention to the Nissan Leaf battery fiasco. Early leafs didn’t monitor battery cell temperature and suffered from very poor battery lifespans. Like 40% of the original life at 100k miles, kind of the dream result for people who hate green cars. But Tesla had the figured out the temperature problem early on and not only Tesla, but most electric cars are now seeing 90% battery life at 100k miles. I think the technology is great for commuting, but not good for road trips. Based on the screenshot looks like the Harley will have 120~mile battery life. That is unworkable for what I do with my bike, but might work for a lot of other people.

Good guess. According to Harley, 110 miles of urban riding.

I like the look of the Livewire and am really looking forward to getting a demo ride once they show up. But, $30K for 110 miles of urban range? That range is going to be significantly less at freeway speeds, and it's going to be less on cold days.

For $30K this needs to be a 250 mile range motorcycle. For 110 miles of urban range it needs to be a $15K motorcycle.

We have an electric car (Chevy Bolt) and really, really like it to the point that I doubt we'll ever by another gas car. Electric is the inevitable future but, right now, I don't see the Livewire as having much of an impact.

A lot more range, HD, or a lot less $$, or both.

If we are to avoid planetary devastation, won’t we all have to have electric vehicles in 10 years?

sunofnun Jan 8th 2019 10:13 AM

Nice, only took em 115 yrs stop oil leaking oil.
