can you send it out to pick up some beer for you?:)

Honda did one of these a while back.

.

I'll be impressed when I see it do figure eights in deep gravel.

As cool as this is, I don't understand why. Unlike cars that can drive themselves, there is almost no point in a bike that can ride itself.

The promoters are seriously considering bringing back monkey races.
Purses of bananas and no grab-ass on the track.

OK let's see....a company that makes motorcycles makes a motorcycle that is the antithesis of literally everything that makes riding a motorcycle a thing.

that's brilliant.

we turn the roads over to the AI cars and trucks and now motorcycles, and all the people can just stay home.

the roads can be full of vehicles, driving themselves around in perfect electrically-powered harmony without the hassle of human need and convenience.

amazon drones can just bring us tacos and beer we can consume in our hover chairs.

yeah - cool.

fuck BMW.

Anyone seen the awesome, under-rated Pixar movie WallE? It's gonna come down to that. Maybe not in our lifetime, but we are the one's doing the R&D for the next gen of sit-on-your-ass-all-day and get fat social media junkies. What a great future it's gonna be! No more crashes, no more stop and go..How are the greedy insurance companies gonna satisfy their stock/shareholders? How're they gonna fleece the public? All the business majors in college today are going into debt to learn how to fuck the public out of every last dollar as we speak. How ironical. Fuck the insurance industry, fuck education for profit and fuck stand by themselves motorcycles. Jeezus key-rist what is the world coming to?

Well it'd have prevented my two drops. One where I came home exhausted, stopped at the end of the driveway and somehow forgot to put my feet down. The other very recently when I parked the bike for a minute at the end of the driveway (there seems to be a pattern here) and walked away with the engine running and did not account for the slight slope which caused it to roll off the sidestand and fall down.

But in principle I agree this is solving the wrong problem: anyone who needs a motorcycle to keep itself upright should not be riding a motorcycle, because if that's too much for them, then the real threats and challenges to riding that it doesn't fix are going to get them killed.

Addendum: even the "automatically keeping itself upright" thing is a daydream. For example I don't believe it will, in any reasonably foreseeable future, be able to anticipate sand or wet leaves on a curve, and handle or recover from them. So there's a big false-sense-of-security problem here.

I'd rather they shipped this:

They....they quite literally discuss that in the video.

It's purpose isn't to be a self driving motorcycle. The purpose is to develop a computer/AI understanding of motorcycle dynamics that's so detailed that it could enhance traction control/braking systems in the future. It just so happens in developing said understanding of motorcycle dynamics the bike is able to do some basic riding by itself.

tl;dr - it's all about the data, not about making a self riding motorcycle

Fair enough. I was not able to listen to the video.

Will it ride you home from the bar if you've had too much?
