Motorcycle road rage shooting

Anyone else catch this one?

king5.com | Road-rage scuffle on I-5 ends in shooting death

Curious to see what transpires.

Looks like a Fiat graphic Yamahopper.

Without any direct knowledge of the situation, I wasn't there, it seems that this was completely self defense, corroborated by witnesses.

Fife I-5 road rage shooting injures man, State Patrol says | The Olympian

A little more info.

Greg Feb 8th 2018 10:15 PM

Sharing some info from the Facebook groups, where she is an active member:
-She's been riding for about a year (at least got her 1st bike less than a year ago)
-She has talked about flashing her gun to a car in a different incident

Obviously more info will come out as this happened in broad view. And we have a man beating on a 23 year old girl. But I'll go out on a limb and assume there was plenty of escalation on both sides

the fact that she was carrying AND stopped to engage with the man instead of riding away kinda tells me all I need to know, self defense or not, she purposely engaged in the behavior that ended with someone dead

Maybe the car blocked her. Maybe even damaged her motorcycle. Maybe she felt it was not safe to ride away and enable the man to hit her in motion. There's a lot of possible scenarios. They both were in a possession of a deadly weapon.

The 60 year olds wife watched the incident from the passenger seat. It will be interesting to hear her side of the story.

This really demonstrates how important it is to keep your cool while driving/riding.

None of which are her calling the police to deal with the old man, she called 911 after shooting him.

Sentinel Feb 9th 2018 06:59 AM

911 won't save your life when someone is coming after you. the man got out of his car so, to me, he had an intent to get in her face. if it's true this rider had bragged online about flashing a pistol while riding, that puts a tough wrinkle on it. but still - the guy got out of his car and went looking for trouble.

humans are funny monkeys. we get hit with this instant fear/hate thing that just pops up out of nowhere and can really take over a person unless they are pretty practiced at self control. and traffic makes you feel like a fucking ant or a machine or something, and it is maddening, we all know it because we have all felt it.

remember when captain kirk got split in half in that transporter accident, and there was the evil twin who was really aggressive and the passive, good twin who was weak? that balance of the two inner forces is a hard thing to maintain.

no winners here.

sigh

my first two thoughts on this incident:
Did the guy get pissed because the motorcyclist was splitting lanes/filtering thru traffic?
Why the hell didn't the motorcyclist GTFOH? Could've split lanes or passed in breakdown lane.

sad.

Both at fault, sounds like she had no busines with a sidearm and on what appears
To be a r6 could have easily evaded car.

Too many people with concealed permits let it go to their head.

I had a dude totally road-rage on me last year. I was driving my Xterra to meet my wife at a pub to watch the SuperBowl. There's a steep hill in a 35mph zone in the neighborhood, I've hit 50mph or so if I don't use some brakes and I've seen a radar trap there before. So I'm using the brakes a few times down the hill. I look in my rearview mirror at the bottom of the hill and I can only see half the roof of a car behind me. which means he's right on my bumper. He does a few head fakes like he's gonna pass me. Then we come up to a stop light and there's a few cars ahead of us so I think maybe he'll figure it out that it didn't matter if I slowed him down. Then we come to the next intersection and I'm in the left turn lane. He's in the other lane so I figure that's the end of it. My light turns green and I turn left and at the last second he gets into the left turn lane and follows me. I go about a block and get into the median turn lane and stop, hoping he'll just go on by, but he pulls over behind me. I'm not going to get out of my car, so I wait for a few cars to go by in the right lane and then drive off. It was pretty hilarious when I looked in my mirror and there's this guy standing out in the pouring rain shaking his fist at me and cussing at me. He then got back into his car and turned around and left. I'm thinking to myself "Dude, I was just going to meet my wife for the game, I had absolutely no intention to impact you in any way". He must have seen the brake lights when I was going down the hill and thought I was trying to piss him off or something. Don't know if it's a good strategy, but getting him to stop and then leaving may have allowed him to do a reset. Later, he could tell his buddies he got out of his car and was gonna do a beatdown but I drove away.

This. If you're carrying and you stop to engage a crazy when you have the option of getting away clean, then somewhere deep down I think you're looking to draw on them.

There have been situations where I'd get off my bike if someone was coming at me rather than try to get away but I don't know if this was one of them. Mostly it depends whether you're trapped or would be forced to do something really dangerous to get away.

Rule 1: Do not engage; Rule 2: if you're packing, REALLY do not engage.

I have serious road rage issues when I drive a cage and I've gotten out of my car before in 520 traffic to yell at someone behind me. I've talked to a shrink about it and I also keep my driving a cage to a minimum because I'm ashamed of my past road rage actions. I also recognize this rage inside of me and I'd never carry because of it (not to say I'd actually do something crazy, but it's just for the best).

Thankfully being on my moto makes me all zen, but I recognize that there are people like me out there and it's best to avoid them if all possible. I wouldn't begin to speculate if this could have been avoided, but it's a shame that someone is dead over traffic and poor choices. Such is life I guess...

I've noticed that many of the people who want to conceal carry are the exact type of person who shouldn't be allowed to.
