Wandering to lunch Saturday

Me and a riding buddy are going for a ride to find something delicious for lunch on Saturday 6/18. I figured I'd throw out an invite to anyone in the area that wants to tag along.
About how we ride.
We haven't got a route, we haven't got a plan, we don't do time frames, we wander. We will be on a VStrom and a Gran Canyon, ride will most likely be all paved roads, old fat guy paced. We stop for fuel and photos and to figure out where the hell we are, so not often. If you can't do a couple hours in the saddle you will probably hate us.
About how we eat.
If it has; cholesterol, fat, salt, sugar, bacon, fish, beef, pork, lamb, chicken, duck, turkey, bacon, buffalo, shellfish, bacon, eggs, bread, tortillas (flour and corn), gluten in general, bacon, bacon, bacon, it is on the menu. We don't care about counting calories or fat content or gluten or GMOs or anything else that is trendy. If it tastes good we eat it damn the consequences. We like to find interesting places to eat that are mom and pop type joints so if you have suggestions, throw them out there.
I would guess a bout a 300-400 mile day, starting at my shrine to motorcycle idiocy and spousal patience, pm me for an address.

My people!!

Love the post BZ... Alas, I will be camping with family at Potholes S.P., so if you find yourself in that vicinity, look for a couple of TW200's and say hello or grab a bite.

So yesterday morning I got a call from my riding buddy, Terry.
T "looks pretty nasty out to be riding"
Z "come on over and we'll have a coffee and look at bikes"
T "sounds good"
Z "bring your gear, you know just in case"
A short while later Terry shows up and we open up the garage and start talking motorbikes and sipping coffee.
Z "hey remember that time we rode over white pass in April a couple of years ago"
T "yeah, you were on the BMW and I was on the Super Ten, boy that was wet"
Z "it rained solid from Naches to Longbeach"
T "not the whole way, it snowed at the top for about 8 miles. Those skiers thought we were nuts"
Z "that was a good ride, good lunch too"
T "sure was... so which way are we headed"
Hook, line and sinker. Almost too easy. So I pulled up the radar map and we are surrounded by a wall of weather. Raining to the east a storm being pushed up from the south and another moving in from the west. North doesn't look bad though. Winthrop? Yep Winthrop, if we hustle we may be able to stay ahead of the front from the south. So we roll the big bikes out and start putting on gear. As we are strapping on helmets it begins to rain, time to move, gotta get north and fast, Moses Coulee. We wind our way up the canyon and I can see a cloud of black chasing us in my mirrors but so far we are only getting mildly wet, not bad. We hit HWY 2, look right, good god that looks nasty over there, look left, that doesn't look much better. Ah but to the north there are lighter clouds and I can just tell there is blue sky behind those clouds... somewhere. So we shoot east on HWY 2, since we ran out of road going north. Half way up the hill it opens up, in a matter of a few minutes there are rivers running down the road. Terry hits one of these rivers running down the ruts and starts to fish tail. He shimmies back a forth but manages to save it and pull out of the water and onto the high ground. I start to pull over and he pulls up beside me, give me the thumbs up and passes me. Looks like we move on. We stop a few miles ahead at the Farmer Hall to get headed back north. As I roll up next to Terry he just says "continentals suck in the rain". Point taken. Onward. We shoot up through Withrow at breakneck speeds, still not out of the rain. As we ride I keep scanning the horizon, off to the northeast it looks like it is letting up. We hit Mcneil Canyon, a great road in dryer conditions, halfway down I can see it, the clouds look awfully light and wispy towards Pateros we are going in the right direction. As we cross Beebe bridge, the rain lets up. As soon as we get up the hill past Chelan the road dries out, we did it. We are now ahead of the storm. We have an excellent ride up along the Methow river. We decide to stop at the Carlton general store for a cup of coffee since we are feeling smug about beating the weather. We down a cup of coffee and hit the road for Winthrop. We take the Carlton-Twisp road on the east side of the river, cause its more fun, and pull in to Winthrop just before noon. Town is relatively empty, guess the weather has kept the more intelligent folks home. So, what's for lunch? Schoolhouse brewery? Hipster heaven, bunch of pompous wait staff with slow service, nope. Jack's? Jack's is pretty good been there a few times, but the Riverside is right down the street and their food is better. Then Terry pulls in next to me and pulls off his helmet. "That Mexican place smells awesome". I sniff the air, he's right, damn guy is like a bloodhound. We are a block away and he can smell carne Asada while on the move. So Mexican it is. Good call too, I had the best mole enchiladas I've had in a long time. We sat there and talked about the ride up and enjoyed a good lunch in nice warm surroundings, even caught some of the Twins game, they lost, shocking I know. As we exit the restaurant we find we had not beat the storm, it was now here and was very angry with us. The trip south was as wet as one can become. The only way we could have been wetter is if we had filled our helmets with water. We stopped in Pateros to hide under an awning at the gas station for a few minutes. We ran into a group of guys on VStroms headed north. They asked which way we were headed, "south" we replied. "It only gets worse" they told us. "north is no better" we told them. We went our separate ways, they were right, it got worse the closer we got to home. We pushed on through the wind and rain rolling back into the garage about 4, wet as a pair of drowned rats. As we pulled our helmets off my wife smiled and said "coffee?" yes please. We sat and had a coffee and reflected on the day. As we pondered the intelligence of our decisions Terry looked up from his coffee cup and wrapped it all up, "that was a good ride"
