New Style Valve Springs?

"(hairpin valve springs), which have solved a multitude of worries and headaches for designers. In the old days of coil springs, they were one of the most vulnerable parts."

I think Honda did that on some of their bikes (450?) also.

Good call! I knew it was an oddball but was fuzzy on the specifics!

Im waiting for someone to replace the whole valve train with solenoids like Koenigsegg. Infinitely adjustible valve timing on the fly.

I don't, but the guy that has the bike shop next door just bought a 63 Matchless G80 that does. We had it running for a couple seconds when it just stopped. Had no compression. Pulled the rocker cover off and found the valve spring stuck. It was just weird looking. I hadn't even seen one of those.

Turns out the oil pump was bad and wasn't oiling to top end. Supposedly the engine had been rebuilt before it was parked in a collection 20 years ago.

It's a cool little bike, that he is looking at selling this spring.
