I read about the failures in RRWorld and issue or two back, apparently the production location shifted recently, and then the problem arose.
Sounded like only racing incidents, but now this proves other folks are having problems too.
It would not be fun highsiding on the street/track from a failed oil filter lubing the rear tire from routine maintenance.
Something about the rubber gasket not being proud of the threads when fully torqued.
Not good for brand recognition or all the performance added hype. I don't know the cost difference between OEM.

I've used Hi-Flo for many years, but it's not the twist on type most modern bikes have, all internal, since it's an ancient dinasour type of bike.

The other issue was very loose threads after the manufacturing location change. I imagine this is going to cost them a bundle in business. I have three in my shop and I am not sure I will use them even though I am not racing. Why take a chance?

Sweet! I think I have a couple of these I didn't end up using after the failure reports started popping. Maybe I can few bucks back.

There is a recall of the K&N filters with certain date codes.

I've used K&N oil filters for years with no problems...getting tired of buying them all of the time I got a FLO all metal reusable oil filter...I now have a K&N filter laying around new in the box if anyone wants it...I haven't bothered to check if it's on the recall list or not...

I buy KTM filters for my KTM, and yeah they are pricey. And I also buy snotty over priced Swiss synthetic oil and its very expensive. But in March my dealer has a 20% off everything sale and I stock up then. Anymore it seems like I don't have the time for riding big distances, so I can get by on one oil change a year. Am I over spending on this stuff? Maybe, but when I'm stuck in road construction or slow traffic and the fans are going crazy and the heat indicator is waaay up there, my brain is telling me that the $$$$ filter and oil is keeping stuff from welding together, Im ok with it.
