Dyno Notes Ninja 650R

Since seeing a rich condition during my dyno run at Nels customer appreciation day, I've replaced the spark plugs and cleaned the air filter and installed a PC3. Probably didn't need the first two. The plugs looked decent, and the filter was dirty but not caked with grime. Been looking around for what to expect from the 650R after a full tune, and if it would make much difference with a stock bike. So I found a dyno run from an identical bike that actually shows RPM. I know the numbers will be different, but I'm mainly concerned with having a reference based on the shape of the curve.

Turns out that awful AFR isn't just my bike, but the stock fuel mapping. I compared the dyno charts to the ready-made Stock map from the Power Commander website. It's an interesting read. That ugly rich area from 50-70 mph corresponds to about 5000 - 7000 RPM and some large negative numbers on the fuel map. Same for that rich area right before redline. The super lean section around 3000 RPM is crazy, but certainly explains the lugging below 4000 RPM. Others have complained about knocking below 4000 RPM , but I've not experienced it.

I'm on the fence about changing from the Zero map to the Stock map. What I'm seeing certainly looks like it will help, but I can't help being nervous. Definitely planning to have it tuned at Nels when I have the money.

Hell since you've got the PC3 cant hurt to try out the "stock" map versus Zero.

Plug it in and if you don't like the performance after a day or so, just put it back to Zero.
