Something about master links with clips; I have had chains go until worn-out, without issue.

Other times, not so much. I owned a 2009 Kawasaki KLX250SF 'tard that lost clips on a regular basis. Luckily, each time it happened, I was able to put on a new clip before the plate started to back-off. It happened so often, six times on one chain, that I began to suspect that a person or persons were removing them. Most of those instances, I noticed the clip missing as I was preparing to leave the parking lot at work.

When that chain was worn, I switched to a rivet link on the new chain. Always replace the sprockets when replacing a worn chain.

Heres another one...

I was at the track yesterday and a rider lost his clip on ML that was safety wired. I ended up talking to him about it and he was very surprised. It was a 520 chain.

I have seen master links that had two cotter pins or safety wire instead of the clip. It had holes through the ends of the master link posts. Is that the type he had?

Not sure. He just said it was a clip on. I was going to give him my spare but it was at home.

Had a friend whose tire was flat on the second day of a 2 day at the Ridge.
Masterlink clip stuck into a 25% used tire.

He brought another bike though, but still blows.

Lost maybe 5 clips in the near 40 years of street riding, a couple times lost the clip n plate, when I got home and lubed the chain while still warm, the prongs were all bent and just hanging on to the inner part of the chain.

This was after a Hwy 20 ride to Winthrop n back.
