Weigh in on 86 zg1000 concourse?

I just found an old concourse on Craigslist. It runs but needs work ... probably carb rebuilds after sitting so long. Stopped riding because of brake failure. It's been sitting since 06. He's asking $700. Says it runs but not driveable because of brakes.

So. Do you think it's a good bike to get into? What's a fair price or a good offer? Pros and cons to sport touring/concourse? Anything I should look for specifically with that bike or with any bike that's been sitting that long?

I'm almost certain it will need carbs serviced or rebuilt, probably new rubber, new fluids and battery. Even if that's all it needs, am I pushing the value beyond buying one in better condition? Since I have a bagger already, should I hold out for a sport bike (just haven't found one in my budget yet)?

All input and opinions appreciated and welcomed.

Thank you everyone.

My guess if it was running top price would be around $1500 like the one in CL that's running.

If you do all the work yourself it might be worth it. That seat is hashed though.

I guess I also should say that I'm not trying to get it to resell, but rather to ride. I like my bike, but often find myself wishing I had a sport bike again, I thought this might be a sort of middle ground...

The '86 is officially an antique...

The one on cl that is running is a '94 model that has the updated instrument cluster, forks, controls, front fender, front brakes, and the front wheel.

I think the running '94 would be a better deal...

???

Your logic escapes me, Sir.

In what Universe is a 30 yr old Tour bike considered 'sporty'?

If I recall correctly, the most notable feature of the Concours was that they made the same bike, unchanged, for 10+ years? So I guess you can find lots of parts.

This is the worst time of year to be bike shopping. If you can wait until mid to late Summer, sellers may be more motivated.

FYI, I saw a low mileage 2009 CBR1000 going for under $6K. Running, Zero issues. That's the sweet spot.

Mute point, I passed. Was asking questions and gathering information. It's my understanding, even if I'm incorrect as I haven't heard anything else, that this is built off a ninja... with variations to gauge cluster, body, cam and carbs.

My post was saying I have a bagger, and the desire to have a sport bike... then saying that I thought this might be middle ground.

To each their own ... I don't think making a point of its "sporty" classification was even an issue ... was simply asking about a bike I don't know much about and the pros and cons. That's the logic... asking questions to gather information to make an educated decision.

Thanks for your comment anyway ...

Op: Hey guys I'm thinking of buying this $700 bike, anyone have an idea what work it might need?

Pnw riders: The concourse is not a true sportbike, buy a $6k literbike instead.

Yeah we give the most helpful advice xD
