Ride to Vance creek viaduct

Going to ride down to the Vance Creek Viaduct today and check it out. Ride some fire roads.
Could use some company and if your familiar with the area great as I am not.
Going to start from Seabeck general store at 1300. Leisurely pace. All are welcome.
Will be taking seabeck holly rd to Bear Creek Dewatto to Old Belfair hwy, down 106 to Skoho valley rd to NF-23.

If you're hoping to get on the bridge you might be out of luck. Last summer they removed a good amount of the railroad ties at the start of the bridge to deter people and have pretty constant security from what I hear. If you do happen to make it to the bridge you will have to climb up from the bottom on the frame and then balance beam walk out until you hit the rail road tries again.

Thanks for the heads up. Do you know if you can ride all the way to the bridge or do you have to hoof it?

Its a short hike there. You have to park on the side on the road and go through the woods. Nothing is clearly marked because they don't want anyone there. But if I remember the correctly just look for the big gate and a lot on don't trespass signs.

There is another bridge in the area that is a concrete bridge that is still in use. I cant remember exactly where it is but there are signs for it. Its not nearly as cool as the Viaduct but it still has some cool views and is legal to go to.

I have only been there form the 'North Side' off of NF-23. That is the more popular way for people to get there because it is a pretty easy hike. But it is patrolled by security.

if you make it to the bridge it now looks like this. Making it very difficult to access the bridge.

You can get there from the 'South Side' off of NF-2341/2199 but I haven't tried and it appears to be a much longer hike and I think there is a locked gate at NF-23 and NF-2341.

Either way the entire bridge and surrounding area is private property owned by a logging company and you risk getting a trespassing ticket.

If you ride around the gate, you can ride all the way to the south side, but you cant get on the bridge. From the North, it's about a mile hike from the gate. (edit.. looks like you cant climb up anymore)
Parking and walking in is legal. (last time I was there) as there are no signs posted.
Here's a recent pic from the south side,

The high steel bridge is the one that is legal and isn't too far away from this one.

Generally, the rule with timber lands is "If its not marked Private, or No Trespassing, it is open to non-motorized use."
Last time I rode near the gate there was no sign and plenty of cars parked. (climbing on the bridge is clearly trespassing, as it is signed)
Riding around a gate on a bike, even if not signed is considered trespassing and the Mason County Sheriff will ticket you (if they catch you).

Guess I'll just have to be satisfied with tearing up some fire/logging roads.

I got out there last year before they pulled it apart.. We came in the back side about 20miles of fire roads. Finally hit a gate that was locked. We walked another 6-7 miles.

There were college kids everywhere. Several were hiking towards us, they had completely missed it all together. It was a shit show.. Cool spot though.
