They are looking at projects that will benefit the general public, recreationally, that they can put that money towards.

One more commericl facility that charges admission and fucks up the neighborhood is not a public good. It is a way for someone to get rich while someone else bears the burden and cost.

Skate-park? Yes.

Bike trails? Yes.

Community garden? Yes.

Ahhh, so public funded facilities that only produce more debt are okay, but ones that can generate revenue are bad.

Okay, campers, Uncle Larry is going to give y'all some actual background and operational information so that you can debate opinions from a factual standpoint.

Here is the list of projects that KPUD has been involved with in the past. Try to evaluate the real benefit of a track against the public benefits being derived from the current list. Look at it from the platform of tangible and intangible benefits. Try to consider the overall benefits derived by the citizens of Kidnap County and the percentage of citizens benefitting.

Here is the funding process, including needed analysis, to qualify for funding. Try to look at the viability of the proposed track from a fiscal standpoint, not like an Alabama bubba staring at a sparkly bass boat at Bass Pro Shops.

Finally, feel free to poke around in the KPUD web site to understand how to contact the board and make your feelings known, hopefully in a calmly reasoned and well informed standpoint.

Happy debating. (I may weigh in later with my take on things. )

Correct me if I'm wrong: Wasn't/isn't the Ridge a completely private venture?

Why, yes it is. But compare the overall quality of the facility to, say PiR which is owned by the city, or Laguna Seca which is owned by the county. I mean, it took them 5 years to have bathrooms. And don't even start with viewing options.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Ridge, but not how much it sucks for spectators. Plus, it feels a lot like...well, Shelton. What Brian wants to do with the Circuit of the Northwest is create a high-end facility. One that appeals to spectators as well, not just drivers/riders.

Kitsap was a bad Nascar location also. Where to Build the moto-complex? Im thinking South sound speedway area would be a great location. Near the Great wolf lodge. I-5 freeway is a must. Plus its between Portland and Seattle.

Kitsap was a bad location for NASCAR primarily because Western WA is a bad place for NASCAR. Those guys need dry weather and that isn't a guarantee out here. But a road course, that can operate even in the rain.

The problem with your idea for a track near Great Wolf is the same problem as saying they should put one in Eastern WA, and that is with where the people with the money and vision are. Rod lived in Olympia and Joe had property in Shelton, hence The Ridge being in Mason County. Brian lives in Kitsap County, hence the plans for Circuit of the Northwest in Kitsap. Apparently there is no one in either of those other places that has the vision and money to build them there.

I grew up in LA. Born in 61. All the places I played as a kid, rode bicycles and stuff, are paved-over for parking lots and Taco Bells and movie-plexes.

It's actually, literally, inhuman.

If you let "developers" have their way, the entire planet will be black-top with pay parking.

Well, this site was originally a dump for the Navy, then it got filled and became Norseland trailer park, which got leveled after decades of people getting sick. The whole thing went through reclamation processes to clean it up. Now they want to put a track there. It's not like they are going to mow down an existing forest or pasture.

I get what you're saying. I was born a raised right here in North Mason and have seen tremendous growth since '66. But I can tell you this, I'd rather see a racetrack than another apartment complex.
