Anyone Gone up to Hurricane Ridge Lately?

A few of us from the PDX\Couve area are making a run north next week, and are considering doing a run up to Hurricane Ridge.

When checking the National Park Services Website, it says that there is some major road construction taking place North of the park entrance. I was wondering if anyone has already gone out that way, and can give a heads up as to how bad the road construction may have affected the road. We don't mind a packed dirt with light gravel road surface, but a surface of deep "road bed" type of gravel that causes your front tire to shift around (even at low speeds), definitely puts a damper on things.

Any information would appreciated.

Its been a few years but here's the phone number for the visitors center. Super crowded with tourists this time of year. Mid week may be a better option than on the weekends.

If you can't get through to the park try calling the PA Visitor Center. The locals should know about road conditions

Thanks for the info MMc. We were thinking of going during the week. We fiqured that traffic might be a little busy, so our expectations are that it will be a "tureon" ride.

I was just hoping someone may have already rode through the construction zone, and could give us a heads up.

i went a couple of weeks ago. construction on the lower sections of road before the park entrance. i don't know about inside the park because the line was so long, over a mile, that I was unwilling to wait in it for the crowded crawl up the hill.

the construction is the installation of culverts, far as I can tell, which makes cuts across the road so there are dirt humps, metal plates, and new asphalt humps to cross every 1/2 mile or so.

your bike is gonna get dirty but you should not have to ride across much dirt or gravel.

me, i would not ever try and ride up there again on a weekend day until after school is back in at least.

Thanks Senti.

I realize things might have changed since then, but hopefully not too much. I appreciate the info on congestion. I have a backup plan (Neah Bay), that I might try to seduce the group with. Just have to see how things work out.

Pie at the Breakwater. It would be a suitable excuse to make the ride, even if there wasn't pretty good espresso at the little snack shack in Neah Bay itself.

Trust me, or at least my signature line.

Right here, if it's still open. It's been a couple of years since I was up there, so it is getting time for me to make a return trip.
