Windy Ridge

Planning on going to Windy Ridge next Wed/Thur or Friday. Trying to get a sense of road conditions. Have two options for bikes, Dual Sport DR650 or a Buell Sport Tourer. Suggestions on which one to take?

Buell is the way.
Pavement all the way except for a couple yards.
Just take NF25 from Randal to NF99 slowly.
The alders dappled shade hides a lot of the road imperfections.

A true Haiku of wisdom.

Thanks for the input. With the heat, fires and smoke I've held off on going. Maybe next week.

Weather looks great for tomorrow. They're calling for patchy smoke at Mt. Saint Helen's but I'll chance it. Hopefully its not to bad. Looking forward to getting back there, its been a couple of years.

An additional thought to this comment ( Fs25 & 99....).

I found that when traveling South on FS-25 from Randle to the FS-99 turn off, you can typically ride at a higher pace as most of the damage is in the Northbound lane. That doesn't mean that you should relax your guard, since there are still some dipping/cracking uglies here and there on the Southbound lane. However, much of the damage in the Southbound lane is easily avoided in that area. If your going to continue South on FS-25 from the FS-99 turn-off (looping around South through Cougar/Woodland), initially the Southbound lane is in good shape (as it is the up-slope lane). However, it will eventually become the down-slope lane, and when it does you will want to keep on your toes as most of the damage will be on that side of the road in that area.
