Fossil Run 04/15

Wow! What an epic run today!!

For those whom braved the mid morning low temperatures, they were rewarded with a most epic trip to Fossil for lunch, clear skies and clean roads (with little to no traffic). My thanks to Cutback for showing early and joining us at SMC, it was a joy riding with you. I can't wait for the next 'warm', dry weekend!

Oh, BTW.....

PSA ~ Due to the heavy "spirited" motor traffic along 8 Mile Rd, by cars & bikes, the local residences and farmers have been complaining to the authorities. The response has been saturation patrols, so everyone should be aware.

Far east side of town (outside city limits) - from the exit for Hwy 197 area, locate State Rd (also shown as Mosier-The Dalles Highway, and East 2nd on google), follow that out through 15 Mile Rd, and then keep going straight at the Y when it splits off onto 8 Mile. Or to go the other direction, take Hwy 197 about 5 miles south of The Dalles and hit it on the left.

That ride we went on before I moved, where the guy had a stroke - that was the road it happened on. (at least I think you and Vaughn were on that one...)

Edit.... I just saw the post prior. Derp.

Is that a 919 next to the Speed Triple in picture 7? If I had to choose a favorite standard/naked it'd be down to one of those two; there's something effortlessly cool about both of them.

Speaking of....... has anybody noticed the good weather for Saturday?!

ladies and gentlemen, start your engines

I will definitely see you all again this season.

I have a long-standing Sat a.m. routine that I stick to which causes a scheduling snafu w SMC. You are usually kick stands up about the time I finish. I'll move things around a few times this season to connect with you. Have a friend with a Duc that wants to tag along as well.

In the meantime, go fast.

Yep, we're putting Lower Eightmile Road on the "No Fly List" for a while. Seems that the natives are getting restless.

Bugaboo, good to hear from you; perhaps you can join us if we alter our schedule some. I'm always up for a Sunday ride.

WarpShatner7, you should hop on that ST and join us for a ride sometime, plenty of room for a new guy.

Buffalo, we were talking about you last week; it would be great to see you again. Bring the Ducati...

Mel, still waiting for you to rejoin your old tribe. Living over on The Dark Side must be getting old by now, come back, we'll try to behave...Nah, not really....

I'm going to try and make it up sometime this summer, but I can't make any guarantees yet. Pretty sure I'll be up in June for niece #2's graduation, but unsure whether the bike will come along with (I know, I know.... that's an unforgivable offense).Couple weeks later, I'll be headed back to Pike's Peak to support Doody on his 2nd run of the Hill Climb Races. August is completely booked out with the Ladies Weekend; an off-road poker run at Uppper Nestucca OHV that I help with (ask for details if anyone's interested); and then... well.... you know... a silly little trip to the Isle of Man for the Classic TT and Manx GP, followed up by some time in Ireland

And yes, you're right.... this rain thing over here is getting a bit absurd. I can't get anything done, let alone go riding. I did make it out last Saturday for a short stint after coffee, but it was dang cold! I'm missing my blue skies over there.

Congratulations to the few intrepid souls who made the blurry transition from a Margarita-drenched Bike Night to SMC.

Did the routine "Fossil Run", grabbed lunch, and headed out to recon the Alder Creek - Winlock area (OK, but still covered with leftover sand from the winter). OR 207 north to Hardman and Ruggs is fine, but still a little chilly at 4,600 feet.

OR 206 westbound from Ruggs to Condon is fine. There's a 40' patch of gravel by the bridge across Rock Creek, but it's well-marked and no problem.

The run from Condon back to The Dalles was pretty harsh; some of the most turbulent head winds ever. The kind that blur your vision and make your ears ring. Welcome to the world of naked bikes....

308 miles and all home safe. Coming up: Going for a slice of pie in Dayville...the hard way.

Good Riding To You All,

Quixote
