  Adjacent to the Hobbit Garage

Usually the only real issues with gravel are on the switch backs as you come down into Maupin. Usually the rest of the road back to the east is just fine.

In addition to those towns, along and close to that route (and depending on which side of the river you ride), Ethanol Free Premium available in Home Valley, Wa.; Bingen (at the Hatt’s/Sinclair station); 2 stations in Hood River (both in The Heights); Lyle, Wa. (when the gas station is open); The Dalles (at the West end of the 2nd and 3rd street split); Condon and Fossil; Maupin; Tyge Valley; and Wamic.

My bike has about 20k miles. I think all but maybe 3 tanks have been non-ethanol.

Unsolicited advice. If you take SR 14 instead of I84, you will have a number of options to make your straight lines a little twistier with not much added time. Cook-Underwood Rd. and Old Highway 8 both are “loop roads” that start and end back at SR 14. Both are twisty and add less than 10 minutes. Lyle-Centerville Highway will add about 15 minutes travel time but is a mostly curvy, empty road that ends a few miles south of Goldendale in I97, maybe 10 minutes from Biggs.

Have fun, go fast!

If you haven't done your trip already, keep in mind that the air quality in central/eastern Oregon is no better than it is in Portland right now. If you're dead-set on doing a long ride, give some serious thought to wearing a HEPA or N95 mask under your helmet. A plain droplet mask won't do shit for smoke. It sucks in town, but once you're out on the highway, the wind makes it tolerable.

@DGA: "Bake over" LOL

Thanks Burphel, ya we haven't gone yet. We plan on riding next Wed. the 29th. We were discussing if the smoke was still this bad that we'd do a Detroit Lake Loop, not as fun but still twisty. Praying that this smoke clears

I am working from my Hood River office today.

Nice west wind has pushed most of the smoke out and it is blowing stronger the further east you go. Looks like things are returning to normal.

Go for it.

Dang! We decided to go on 224 to Breitenbush and Detroit Lake instead. Too much of a risk hitting smoke as it keeps coming and going. May have to try again next year or maybe sometime in September as long as it doesn't rain. Thanks for you help all! And it's awesome to know where the Non Ethanol fuel is!

PS. Had no idea the gas station on the corner in Detroit Lake also had Non-E! Nice little surprise
