Feb. 28, 2017 First ride of the year

I was lucky enough to get out for a little 60 mile ride today. Not a big deal, but after 4 or 5 months of nasty weather and no riding, it was great fun. It was about 46* or so, a little nippy, but it was great to get out and do some low level flying.

Tomorrow and Thurs. look good, too, but after that, there's a possibility of rain for the next 10 days. I'm going to try and ride the next two days since the opportunities are limited at this point.

BTW, I didn't see anyone else riding when I went out, but I'm sure that some folks took advantage of the nice weather. Didn't see any cops, either, which was nice.

I know we're all anticipating some group rides when it warms up, and the gravel gets removed from the roads. See ya out there!

Weather good enough to justify a ride happened again on Thurs., March 2. I decided to check out Rowena Crest (loops), and the timing was good. The street sweepers had just made a run on the east side of the Crest. There was still lots of dirt and tiny rocks on the road, but the orange colored ball bearings were mostly gone. Traction was not all that great, but it was a lot better than it has been.

The west side of the Crest wasn't yet cleaned up, but there was much less gravel on the west side.

I made my way over to Hood River and found that, there too, the sweepers were hard at work. Again, traction was sorely lacking for the same reasons mentioned above. Over the next few days the cars will be pushing the debris off to the side, which will greatly improve things. It's getting better, daily. The rain we're getting at the moment should help, too.

Thursday's ride was 82 miles, enough to sweep out some of the non-riding cobwebs from my thawing brain. Warm weather is getting closer and closer.

Edited to add: the only small downside to the ride was a LEO on 142 headed north when I was going south. I was operating the SV slightly outside of the suggested speed limit parameters, but the man in blue must have had more pressing business than to have a road side chat with me. Thank God!! =)
