Exclamation Went for a ride before this critter jumped out...

Did a short ride today to SPS to check out the last of the gear for sale at 50%off. Met up briefly with a couple of crazies from the forum here! Thanks guys! Good to see you even on a "Corona" day.

Tonight riding home I nearly got wiped out by a big gray coyote running full speed perpendicular across I-5, (in the dark) doing 70mph. It was seriously by the grace of God that i didn't go down and that mangy dog was basically just ahead of my tire enough to not hit it. No camera pics but Mark watched it happen...

Never a dull moment peeps!
Keep your eyes on a swivel. We're all gonna die one day. Today wasn't my day!

Yikes , so true. Ever since I clipped a deer doing about 40 a couple years back it always pops into my head when I'm riding through wooded areas and makes me roll off the throttle.

Were you riding with the high beams on?

What part of the PNW were you in? I-5, (in the dark) doing 70mph. Seems totally reasonable. You'd think you would be safe wouldn't you! Head on a swivel, no joke!

That's one fast coyote.

And it doesn't even take a critter that big to drop you! Glad you stayed two wheels down!

Wildlife boldness goes up when human activity goes down. Thursday evening, two blocks from my house I was looking at some rabbits nibbling the grass right beside the sidewalk, surprisingly as the sun wasn't even down yet, when way more surprisingly a fairly large and very healthy-looking coyote came running by, right down the middle of the street. This in close-in NE Portland. I've never seen one around here before; day or night. There were no cars or people at all.

The raccoons are out earlier as well. We feed a neighborhood cat (original owners have basically abandoned him so those of us who aren't assholes look after him) on our back porch. We used to bring in his dish at sunset so the raccoons don't find it and become regular visitors, but three showed up the other day on our backdoor camera around 9pm: we don't usually see them before midnight or later.

So hey, let's be careful out there.

I believe it was across from the weigh scales heading north.
I really don't remember. I just see it running across my eyelids when I close my eyes!

Maybe those chubby v-twin pistons spooked some fright into the poor pupper.

A few days back I heard a Duke heading N up James before I saw it, maybe you?

Ears are always on high alert when I hear bikes out n about.

No, that one isn't me... His is orange and white and he has an Akro exhaust as I recall. I watched him daily go past my job on Ellis St. last summer.
I can't remember his name but I've chatted with him on a Superduke forum.

Did I pass you going the other way on Mosquito Lake Road at about 1:30 this afternoon? There cannot be too many SVís that color out there.

I had to stop going to SPS with the final sales, not because of coyotes, but because I bought too much stuff

That wasn't me. I was on 9 Sunday, but didn't take Mosquito this weekend (and wasn't riding the SV)... Wandered around Anacortes and Whidbey on Sunday getting lost and being lazy. Not a lot of miles covered. but I did find the non-ethanol station in Oak Harbor!
We found Fort Ebey for the first time on that ride. I'm going to have to go back and do a bit more discovery there as it looked like there might be some big guns there...

Ft Ebey is on my rotation for camp sites. But jump on the ferry and hit Fort Worden if you want to see some gun emplacements.
