I see this attempt rise and die almost every year. People here are just scared sh*tless of lane sharing.

It's not really "lane splitting" but it is a step closer.

It's a funny thing. It would reduce the amount of cars on the road, but at the same time people just hate having someone pass them while they are sitting in traffic...it's not fair to them. It really is a funny concept.

a step closer to legal is a step away from a ticket to me,lane split responsibly and respectfully and people will be less likely to vote it down

Or simply not fair... Oddly enough no matter how many folks I've talked to about lane splitting, that don't ride, this was always one of the top three reasons why we should not be allowed to do this.

I always argued that it is "fair" in the grand scheme of things. Motorcyclists trade safety, convenience, cargo capacity, passenger capacity, and protection from the elements for the ability to be a little bit faster in traffic. We are just making up for the time it takes for us to put on all our gear!

Motorcyclists would be allowed to pass to the left of left-lane traffic (READ:shoulder).

They could travel no faster than 10 mph faster than neighboring traffic. Overall speed could not exceed 25 mph.
This is not lane-splitting.

Even if this gets shot down, it's all still a start, so the public becomes more and more aware of motorcycles moving up in stopped traffic. I'll mention lane splitting or filtering to friends or cowokers, and they don't have a clue what I'm talking about. The media needs to put this out there, like this, so people start getting a clue. If people start understanding it's benefits, they may think...... "Hey, maybe I'll get a motorcycle too, so I'm not sitting here in stopped traffic."
