They are definitely the tip over protection. Protect the side cases too. Which are VERY expensive to replace. You can see them in this picture. Well worth the $450.

Is that a Kawi top box or a Givi?

I was reading something a while ago that talked about the earlier mounts being very flimsy and prone to cracking. My friends 08' had that happen and ended up going with the Corbin box. I like the Corbin, but for a thousand bucks maybe not so much. Spent some time with a few beers and the laptop researching last night, and it looks like Givi re-engineered the mount. Thinking of going that way and saving a couple of hundred.

I have a steel plate from Twisted Throttle that replaces the stock plastic platform. The GIVI/Kawi top case has a plastic platform that bolts to the steel plate. The TB still bounces around a bit but is more stable than before using the stock Kawi piece.

Phills racks for the C14 has the mount built in on the steel plate and some says its the best most stable way to mount a top-case. The Corbin smuggler looks like a** personally.

I have the smaller top case because I am not a fan of the larger one.

  Kawasaki Concours 14 (2014)
I saw another Connie on I-84 E in Portland yesterday, 2nd one I saw in a year.
And a guy came over to talk to me in a parking lot today
after he saw mine... he has wanted one (that model) for a couple of years now,
wanted to know how I liked it. With 2 other bikes, he can't afford it yet.

I guess Connies aren't really very rare.

Last week I went by that "next 140 miles" sign pictured several posts back.
Great ride.
