Cheese slicers on I5 north of Bellingham

Looks like the state decided to put cable barriers in the median north of Bellingham. Any idea how far they are going to stretch it?

No idea. Some of it they took out the not very old cables and posts, and installed new ones. Very Strange.

They just installed new ones on the Guide as well. Here's the number to voice your concerns over them guillotine cables.

Who owns those things? Are they state-mandated? It is the usual government "dodge"' to shrug and say something weasley like "The state requires/recommends them and we just do what they say." The Nuremberg Problem is alive and well and running the place.

I thought they decided those things do not work. Of course that is probably as good a reason as any for the state to install them.

When I first looked into these things back in the 90's it seemed to be that federal dollars were tied in, ergo there was a fiscal incentive. They are much cheaper than the traditional W beam construction, but there did not then, or seem now, to be any real statistical demand for installation. It seems to be more a perception of need than a demonstrated need.
