Hi fellow riders, this being our 1st annual Guide Dogs/Tender Loving Canines poker run I would really appreciate feedback from you riders that ride the event and how it was, and what could be made better, so we can make next years even better!

This is some interesting info and history about Guide Dogs/Tender Loving Canines.

I would like to introduce you to a wonderful Organization, Guide Dogs of America. The International Association of
Machinists and Aerospace Workers founded Guide Dogs of America in 1948, when one of their retired members, Joseph Jones,
Sr., was denied a guide due to his advanced age. Since then, Guide Dogs of America has bred, raised and trained some of the
world’s most dedicated dogs and paired them with visually impaired individuals of all ages, races and beliefs, from all over the
United States and Canada. The freedom and independence a guide dog brings to a visually impaired person is immeasurable.
With the need for highly qualified service dogs continuously growing, in January of 2020, Guide Dogs of America
merged with Tender Loving Canines. This organization provides a service dog who is individually trained to do work or
perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual or other
mental disability. Together we now help veterans, individuals who are blind and children with autism. This greatly expands the
number of high quality service dogs that we can provide and puts more dogs into the hands of people who need them.
Guide Dogs of America breeds, raises and trains these dogs at their facility, near Los Angeles, CA. After the dog is
trained, the client is then carefully matched with a service dog, taking into consideration their lifestyle and environment. In
addition, the personalities of student and service dog, size, strength, pace of walk, energy levels and other special requirements
are considered to ensure a harmonious relationship. Guide dog teams are housed at the facility and spend 24-hours a day for
twenty-one days on campus, while service dog teams do a 2-week online course and spend 24-hours a day for seven days on
campus. Upon completion, an awards ceremony is held for students, dogs, friends and family members. The graduates then
return home with their new partner and a renewed sense of freedom and independence.
The cost of breeding, raising, training and finally pairing a quality dog to a visually impaired person exceeds $60,000.
All services, including the guide or service dog, harness, in-residence training and lifetime follow-up, are free-of-charge to all
clients. Since its founding in 1948, Guide Dogs of America has graduated over 3,300 guide and service dog teams throughout
the United States and Canada.
Our sole purpose is for the Local F Poker Run/Motorcycle Ride to raise money for Guide Dogs of America. Our goal
for this year is $20,000. This is the first year of the Poker Run/Motorcycle Ride and we look forward to years to come with
your support. Please join us on this special day. All proceeds go to benefit Guide Dogs of America / Tender Loving Canines!
Thank you for your generosity!
Sincerely,
Local F Poker Run/Motorcycle Ride
Committee
Thank you for your support!
