Anyone on Adventure bikes planning on doing the Washington Back Country Route? Looks like it would be fun.

There are several members that have completed some or all of the route over the last few years.

I have to finish Section 9 (the most northern section) if I can this summer.

I rode my 2006 Suzuki Vstrom for most of it.

You will see all kinds of bikes on the route, from dual sports to full size adventure bikes.

On a couple of the stages, I rode a Moto Guzzi stelvio NTX. That was when I was involved with the Moto Guzzi dealer in Spokane.

There is so much adventure bike touring (on and off road) to do in the northwest.

Hells Canyon, the Magurder Corridor and all of the forest service roads and trails you can find.

I have done it a couple times on a BMW 1200gs. Lots of fun, might do it again but this year will be late summer because of the snow pack. Want to do some of the other back country discovery routes.

Quinndog:

I think your Super Adventure would be (and do) just fine on the route.

I would probably put a skid plate on the bike if it does not come with one.

Skid plate is on order, I also have an 1190 that is set up very well, skid plate, upper crash bars, Rottweiler intake and arrow exhaust, Touratech panniers and LED headlight bulbs with Baja designs Squadron Pro off road lights and F & R Conti 50/50 tires sitting in the corner, with rear mounted on wheel. Looking for another front wheel also.

I've done the WABDR twice, its a good route, but there are a couple tough rocky sections just south of Ellensburg.
Mr BestRests NWpassage route is also good and there are several good multi day loops around the Olympic Peninsula.

I've done the southern half on my 990. Section 2 between Packwood and Ellensburg is a bear. I was an idiot and did it as my first day in the dirt with no skid guard or crash bars. That was a mistake. I got lucky and only went down once in a sandy spot with no real damage.

Here are the worst spots. For newer riders, they can be a nightmare. For more experienced riders, just a challenge. Both be completed on big bikes but you should be aware of the easier alternates.

In the link below the trouble spots are marked, and the easier route is the northern half of the loop. Both are tougher traveling south to north.
