ORV use in Whatcom County

If you would like to see legal ORV trails on public land in Whatcom County please send an email to the county council asking them to amend Whatcom County Code Chapters 20.43 and 20.97 to allow motorized trails.

I wish you all the best with that but I ditched my dirtbike and quads cause i got tired of driving 2 hrs each way to ride, then your jamed in this little area with 250 other people which makes it much more dangerous. Too many close calls with people coming opposite direction all but out of control, but the good news is it makes it easy for cops can run around with their decible meters hassle everybody with exhaust write you a ticket and tell you you cant ride anymore.

Do they really ever do that in Washington State?

State law limits sound to 105 db at half the rated max RPM.
You have to work at making a modern bike that loud (some people do).

Very few if any LEO have been properly trained to do sound checks.
End result is they don't bother.

I have been riding offroad for about 50 years and the only time I have been through a sound check was at every offroad race I entered and that was done by the club putting on the event.

I dont know about washington but i gurantee you they do in oregon, just ride at sand lake a few times and theyll find you, i ended up putting toomey hush kits on both my banshee’s.

I remeber the good old days when you just went up in the woods and rode, hell my dad used to take me down to what was the mud pit right below oregon city shoping center and the trails by camp withicomb off 224 behind the defunct pay n pak and never got hasseled, now its illegal to ride anywhere its not posted to do so.

Oregon decible limits change as to where you ride between 93-97 decibles

That's why I drive 26 hours to Baja! Wide open spaces, great food, few people, and just a short drive to get there!

A lot of people.
The biggest bitch about motorized offroad recreation is noise.
For most people, if they can't hear it they don't care if it exists near by.

Doesnt seem to affect harleys??? All the legal riding areas are way out of town and if you buy a home next to a rec area youd kinda have to expect it.
