Then what would my wife worry about while I'm away? Plus think of the story I have due to my own incompetence. That's worth more than knowing how to not crash while alone in the mountains!

Riding alone in the mountains? Do you remember that kid that rode alone in the dunes by Moses Lake who crashed and broke his leg? He spent a night or 2 alone before anybody found him. Not a good idea.

Don't worry, I learned my lesson. I also had a GPS beacon with an SOS button, a timetable of check-in times for my wife, a map laid out for her showing where I'd be and when, and plenty of supplies and equipment to make my night's stay on Slide Ridge fairly easy.

Next time I'll bring a friend.

Good deal. You are definitely prepared. I also have a Spot Tracker that I use when I ride on trips by myself.

Also, great job of getting the winch!

Years and years of being an active Boy Scout beat preparedness into me.

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
