Dual Sport / Sport Touring

I'll be moving to Sicily in September and I'm undecided on what bike I should pick up before I head over. I'm torn between a Supersport, Sport Touring, and a Dual Sport. I'm favoring the Sport Touring due my wife wanting to ride two up and explore Italy on it. Of the Sport Touring and Dual Sports, what is your personal favorite? I'm leaning towards a Ducati Multistrada 1200 or a Yamaha FJ-09. Thanks for your opinions!

Sounds very cool, but why ask us? What would we know about the best motorcycle for Italy?
Maybe ask these guys..

Looks like small bikes and cars are most common, and traffic laws are optional.. (Yikes!)

The Sicily thing is just backstory, I mainly just want to know what you would prefer for dual sport or sport touring. I'm just looking for peoples opinions on bikes.

With the right tires, they do very well on Forest Service roads as well.

Without more of the backstory your question is difficult to answer. It all depends on what kind of riding you'll be doing. I lived in and worked on a project in Livorno Italy some years ago. Much of Italy is pretty densely populated.

If you're living, working and pretty much staying in an urban area get a scooter. If you're able to get out into the countryside once in awhile, (don't know how much open countryside exists on Sicily) then get a Dualsport. Can't say for certain but don't believe a Supersport or a Sport Touring bike would be the best option

Pretty large delta between the FJ-09 and the Multi. I own a FJ-09 and love it but I would trade it in a hot second for a Mutli. In my estimation the FJ-09 is about 75-80% of a Multi at about 50% of the price.

If you are looking at a Muti dont forget to check out the S1000XR, I will own one someday.

DAMNIT I should look at posted dates before I reply.

Dual sports are better for wheelies

I would have to live in Italy before I would even remotely consider an Italian bike.
